Dear All, On 10 May 2010, the ALAC submitted a Statement on IDNs<http://www.atlarge.icann.org/correspondence/correspondence-3-10may10-en.htm> to the ICANN Board in response to the following public consultations related to IDNs: IDN Variants<http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/public-comment-201004-en.htm#variants>, IDN 3 Character<http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/public-comment-201004-en.htm#3-char> , Chairs Draft Interim Paper for Policy on Introduction of IDN ccTLDs<http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/public-comment-201004-en.htm#idn-cct…> and the Proposed Implementation Plan for Synchronized IDN ccTLDs<http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/public-comment-201004-en.htm#synch>. Please see the response below from Tina Dam, Senior Director IDNs: I think this is an appropriate standpoint by the ALAC - and I feel certain that we all agree with it. The difficulty is implementing this in the gTLD process as well as in the fast Track Process. Our first attempt was back in February 2009. The latest attempt was recently in April. These two attempts are quite similar, but not successful yet. We do, on the staff side, have the opportunity to discuss this over with the Board working group formed for this purpose. We are currently discussing overall plans with them and we hope to be able to come out with some more information in time for the Brussels meeting - although this would be separate to the gTLD and the fast Track programs. The attached document was drafted by Alan Greenberg, Vice Chair of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) and ALAC Liaison to the Generic Names Supporting Organisation (GNSO). The draft statement was submitted for review to the wider At-Large community on May 5th 2010 and discussed on the mailing list. The attached statement on the initial report of the registration abuse policies working group and the NORC draft report for the study of the accuracy of Whois registrant contact information was drafted by the Carlton Samuels, member of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) and Garth Bruen from the At-Large Whois Working Group. On April 16th 2010, the At-Large Staff sent the draft statement to David Giza, the Staff person responsible for the public consultation on the NORC Draft Report, which ended on April 15th and notified him that the document would go trough the ALAC ratification process shortly. On April 19th, the Chair of the ALAC asked the Staff to start a five-day online vote on the ALAC Statement on the Recent Whois Reports. The online vote resulted in the ALAC endorsing the Statement with 11-1 with one abstention. Alan Greenberg, Vice-Chair of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), drafted the attached ALAC Statement on the proposed VeriSign Domain Name Exchange Service. On April 14th 2010, Alan submitted the document to the public comment forum on registry services along with a note saying that an ALAC vote to officially endorse the Statement was scheduled to start shortly. Alan Greenberg sent a second note to the public comment forum on April 20th announcing that the vote had reached quorum and that the ALAC had endorsed the Statement. The online vote resulted in the ALAC endorsing the Statement with a 14-0 vote. The webinar will provide an overview of ICANN as an organization, what issues ICANN policy addresses, who develops policy at ICANN (and how), and most importantly, how you can become involved and help ICANN to shape the future of the Internet. This webinar provides useful, actionable information to you if you are wondering whether a role in Internet policy development could benefit your or your organization¹s long-term goals. The two sessions are duplicates, scheduled to accommodate different time zones. Each session, scheduled to run for 90 minutes, will be conducted in English only. The meeting will be run in Adobe Connect with a slide presentation along with a dial-in conference bridge for audio. Participants will have opportunity to ask questions at the end of each session.
