Endorsement of candidates for the Consumer trust AoC Review

You will recall that at the last ALAC meeting, it was decided that the five regional ALT members, possibly augmented by RALO representatives (up to 1 per region) would recommend endorsements to the ALAC. To date I have not had any regional leaders identify a person to participate in the endorsement. We are about to schedule the endorsement meeting for next week, so if there is any interest in adding a regional rep, please let me know immediately. Alan

Dear ALAC, The ALAC Statement on the Planned Implementation of the New Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) was received on 1 Dec 2015. A formal reply is being prepared. The gist of it is that the Board will consider the input together with the results of the Public Comments on Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) Operational Profile for gTLD Registries and Registrars (see forwarded information below). The ALAC may want to consider submitting a statement into the Public Comments process. Moving forward, I would like to propose a slight adjustment to the ALAC statement template. If a statement is an advice to the Board, it should be indicated in the statement itself. You might want to create a field with a box that you can tick or an added sentence. This is to avoid any miscommunication that may occur in the transmission and processing of the statement. Glenn, you are probably correct. However, I am sure that if more background is needed to address the issues raised, we will be asked for it. In my view, it is preferable to keep something like this short. If you append several pages to it, it is far less likely to be read. I think that Garth made the right decision in his original draft when he chose to keep it short and to the point. Thanks Jean-Jacques, Perhaps it is my natural aversion to hierarchies and the often-imposed requirement to traverse them, but in my mind, this is a staff issue and rightfully should be directed at the President and CEO. If the perceived confusion was not associated with someone who reports to the CEO, I would have directed the letter even lower in the organization. I copied the Board, and in particular our Director and the Chair, and I presume it will be more widely distributed, but in my mind, asking for action from the Board is exactly what should not be needed if things are working well. If the letter yield either no results or what we deem to be insufficient action, then we could escalate.
