Sala, two comments. 1. You use the term "sponsoring organizations" (sometimes capitalized). The concept of a "Sponsored" TLD has a very specific meaning in ICANN, referring to some of the TLDs that were delegated in the last decade. I do not believe that the term is used in relation to the new gTLD program. 2. In your last bullet, you make reference to TLD which are not open to general registration of 2nd level domains. The Internet is full of such TLDs, including many ccTLDs with strong restrictions on who can register 2nd (or even 3rd) level names, and a slew of gTLDs with very restrictive registration policies. I am not sure that the situation is so dissimilar in that although these TLDs do allow SOME registrations, they forbid many others. The fact that Google is generally considered to be an intermediary service provider, they need to demonstrate that in not allowing second level .blog names to end users is not contrary to global public interest. Policy influences that largely impact on how Google operates. My main concern would be whether we have access to a Study on the Impact of Closed Generic Term Registries and the Impact on global public interest, ICANN's core mission etc. If such a study was done, grateful if the community could point out to me a link so I can read. - Closing off generic name spaces for exclusive use in the wake of extremely poor global campaigns and awareness where ICANN or the gTLD programme is involved; - Challenges for end users and consumers noting that there are consumer groups that have already started lobbying US Senate on the perceived harm; - Controversies surrounding changing the rules during the game vrs GAC Intervention; - Regulatory trends within the US will have an impact on ICANN's policy decisions as far as anti trust, competition is concerned, we have recently seen this when the The Honorable Philip S. Dear Cheryl, Dear Yrjö, it is a great testimony to the competence, track record and personal qualities of many members in our community, to see that both of you have been selected for positions on the ICANN Nominating Committee, Yrjö as this year's Chair and Cheryl as the Chair Elect. You have both proven your ability to serve ICANN on countless occasions and I am thrilled that the Board has recognised that you may continue to serve the ICANN community, albeit in a slightly different capacity. Facilitating the cross-community range of views on the Nominating Committee to a consensus is a challenge. I am saying this from personal experience, having served as a member of the NomCom a few years ago. What it exciting though, is that you will lead a group of people to find consensus on ICANN's big picture. It is challenging, but immensely gratifying too. Having worked with both of you for several years, I can safely say that the Board has found excellent candidates and I wish you both every success in the work you are set to accomplish, with a committee of exceptional minds chosen by the community, for the community. Dear Cheryl, Congratulations!!!![?][?][?][?] on making Chair Elect for NomCom! Being a babe in the system, I can only say that you are the woman most admired by me. In my "infancy" (in the system), I have never seen a more committed. dedicated person in ICANN and even beyond. For a volunteer to commit and consistently stay up for 1am to 5am morning calls, contribute substantively without breaking a sweat, lead, guide and mentor others and manage their daily affairs is simply an extraordinary human being. You are and remain an inspiration and we will continue to rely on your counsel and wisdom in days to come. In Prague, whilst we were celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the ALAC, and I was touched by a story you shared about how the ALAC at one stage was relegated to meet in someone's store room, and today the ALAC has and continues to command the respect because of all the hard work that you and others with you seeded into the ALAC to enable the building process of our beloved and wonderful At Large Family to impact policy processes.
