Dear all, The GAC, meeting at ICANN62 in Panama, has today appointed a Liaison to the ALAC. My counterpart will be Ana Cristina Neves, the GAC Representative from Portugal. This appointment, in my view, reflects the appreciation by the GAC of cooperation with the ALAC , and will no doubt greatly improve the preparation and follow-up of our joint meetings. Best, Yrjö

URGENT: Supplementary Comment on .O release

In light of other comments posted, Jonathan has suggested that we issue a supplemental comment making it clear that we beleive that the auction proceeds must go to charities that support the public good and the Internet Community. Moreover, the TLD must actually be used and not acquired for speculation/resale. I strongly suggest that we post this comment and ratify after the fact. Is there any strong opposition to this? Alan

Paper copies will also be distributed tomorrow. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST SESSION STARTS AT 8:00 (LOCAL TIME). The ETHOS AWARD session starts at 8:30. ALAC Chair Selection and update on Panama agenda

Nominations have now closed and we have two candidates for ALAC Chair starting at the end of ICANN63. Maureen Hilyard and Tijani Ben Jemaa were both duly nominated and both have accepted the nomination. You can see the candidate statements at https://community.icann.org/x/JiW8B (near the bottom). In response to requests, we will have a meeting with the candidates from 8:00 to 8:45 on Tuesday. Location to be determined. The meeting will not be recorded nor will there be remote participation due to technical limitations and staff availability. The detailed format will be announced but we will likely have a short statement from each candidate and then open the floor to questions. If anyone would like to present questions ahead of time, forward them to me and staff. We are still looking at alternatives for a meeting to discuss NomCom delegates. Alan

Meetings to discuss Chair candidates and NomCom appointees.

Based on requests, I will work with staff to find time for a meeting with ALAC Chair candidates (45 minutes - 1 hour) and NomCom delegate appointments (CLOSED MEETING, 30 minutes). It may not be possible to record or have remote participation for the Chair meeting. My best guess right now is 8 am on Tuesday for the Board candidates and 8 am on Wednesday or Thursday for the NomCom but that may not be what happens. I will work with staff on this tomorrow. I am presuming you do not want to start the Chair election until the meeting has happened. Alan

Selection of NomCom Delegates for 2018-19

I have had a few concerns raised with some of the candidates identified by the RALOs. Accordingly we will hold individual votes on each of the candidates. In each case, a vote of YES will mean you wish the candidate named by the RALO to be confirmed as the ALAC appointed delegate. A vote of NO means that you wish the issue discussed in an In Camera (private) discussion (ALAC and ALT Advisors only) with the potential for adding one or more names as possible candidates and re-voting. Looking at the At-Large calendar for previous ICANN meetings, it does seem that this is done, but I guess a bit closer to the meeting. But note that simply points to the overall sessions, but the fine details within each. That is on the wiki.
