Although we are rather past the time limit with this, due to the present delays with the vote on the ALAC Liaison, we now have more time to discuss our options. Alan, Beau and I still have to discuss the names. In the meantime, it would be great to get comments from NA Ralo on the list of candidates identified so far. A rather interesting development is that Michael Geist indeed might be interested. I had emailed him earlier but not received a reply. As luck would have it, I spoke to him during yesterday's CIRA meeting and seemed interested. However, said he'd need consult a colleague to find out what the time commitment is like and get back to me ASAP. Should he confirm, then my short list would be Wendy and Michael. Thought I haven't committed myself to supporting anyone - Thought i'd share what my current preferences are. That being - one canadian - Michael (if he confirms), if not Evan (who has confirmed) - and one person from the USA - Wendy (in no particular order). I mention two names, as Wendy is also a candidate for Board liaison. The decision on ALAC board liaison should have been known by now. The results are being withheld for reasons that , well, i can't reasonably explain. I won't say more.... Many ALSs representatives believe that these kind of processes must include new faces in order to be truly inclusive. I believe that it´s crucial for the ALAC representatives to the NomCom to have some basic knowledge about the ICANN processes and the people who is currently involved, in order to perform a good and fair assessment of the qualities of each candidate, and it´s potential contributions to the process. I also have in mind that according to the secret consultation performed by the LacRalo secretariat, I´m not the most supported candidate. I´m obviously disappointed about this fact, and I believe that both issues - my assertions regarding the appointee qualifications and the LacRalo favoritisms- are connected. Moreover, I suppose that one is a consequence of the other. In any case, I thought the committee could find useful the above offered explanations. Best regards, Sebastian

I just got back after five days with almost no connectivity. I also remind everyone that, a few days ago, I posted a second draft of our submission for the consultation on the RAA, to the working group list. There were several comments, so a third iteration might be necessary - at the same time, I encourage any ALAC member or other person who is not on the working group list to have a look at the second draft at http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/pipermail/raa-wg_atlarge-lists.icann.org/att… so to anticipate possible comments. Maybe I am politically naiive, as I thought giving extension to those who missed is not a bad idea. However, frankly speaking, I am OK with either option - to close it now and announce, or extend for two more votes/ or two more days. The difference is not so big to me. I am OK with either candidate to become the Board Liaison, as well. It's not really the BIGGEST issue we need to face ;-). Too much energy and emphasis on symbolic politics/game is not what I like to see. Let's move on in a clear and rational way, that's all I like to see.
