Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Strategic Partnership on the Preparatory Process of the Global Digital Compact and Summit of the Future 2024 [cid:7bb68d05-c465-4279-932d-e51b02f4b492] Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Strategic Partnership in a meeting held at BTRC HQs on 9 April 2024 to accelerate the preparation of the Global Digital Compact, UN Summit of the Future 2024, and intervention in Internet Governance in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Initiative for Unified Voices on Global Digital Compact & Summit of the Future 2024, under the auspices of the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) & Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), has been actively engaging stakeholders since 2022. This engagement encompasses various actors, including Parliamentarians, Government officials, the UN system, private sector representatives, Media, technical communities, civil society organisations (CSOs), academia, and youth communities. Dhaka, Bangladesh, 9 April 2024 - The Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) are committed to accelerating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development implementation the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) seek to strengthen their partnership by focusing on jointly selected priorities and by pursuing a more strategic and coordinated collaboration by leveraging their respective strengths and broadening their combined impact, building on existing and new collaborations. The Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) were signed in a meeting held at BTRC headquarters between BIGF Secretary-General Mohammad Abdul Haque and Lt. Col. S M Rezaur Rahman, psc, sigs, Director - Systems and Services division of the BTRC. Engr. Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman; Md. Aminul Haque, Vice-Chairman; Engr. Sheikh Reaz Ahmed, Commissioner; Dr Musfiq Mannan Choudhury, FIDM, FCIM, Commissioner; and Md. Delowar Hossain, the Commissioner, Brig Gen Mohammad Khalil-Ur-Rahman, ndc, psc, te, Director General of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and other senior Officials were present. Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu (former MP and Minister) Chairperson, Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Vice Chairperson of BIGF and Executive Coordinator of Bangladesh Initiative for Unified Voices on Global Digital Compact and UN Summit of the Future 2024, and Mr. Hiren Pandit, Policy Research Fellow of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum were at the signing ceremony. Engr. Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of BTRC, presided over the signing ceremony. Brig Gen Mohammad Khalil-Ur-Rahman, ndc, psc, te, Director General of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), moderated the session. In his speech, the chairperson, Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu (former MP and Minister), mentioned that the signing of the MoU will open a further window for working with BTRC on a large scale to implement Summit of the Future 2024 and Digital Compact. Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Strategic Partnership on the Preparatory Process of the Global Digital Compact and Summit of the Future 2024 [cid:7bb68d05-c465-4279-932d-e51b02f4b492] Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Strategic Partnership in a meeting held at BTRC HQs on 9 April 2024 to accelerate the preparation of the Global Digital Compact, UN Summit of the Future 2024, and intervention in Internet Governance in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Initiative for Unified Voices on Global Digital Compact & Summit of the Future 2024, under the auspices of the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) & Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), has been actively engaging stakeholders since 2022. This engagement encompasses various actors, including Parliamentarians, Government officials, the UN system, private sector representatives, Media, technical communities, civil society organisations (CSOs), academia, and youth communities. The Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) were signed in a meeting held at BTRC headquarters between BIGF Secretary-General Mohammad Abdul Haque and Lt. The speakers at the consultation stressed the need for all-out preparations by Bangladesh's multi-stakeholders to reap the benefits of the upcoming Global Digital Compact and Summit of the Future 2024. The speakers directed preparatory work on the expected benefits of the summit. Besides, speakers were asked to develop the Bangladesh position paper on GDC and Summit of the Future in a multi-stakeholder manner to ensure Unified Voices. Bangladesh Pre-Summit of the Future 2024 National Consultation Before the Summit of the Future 2024 was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 27 March 2024 under the Bangladesh Initiative for Connecting, Empowering & Amplifying Unified Voices on Global Digital Compact & Summit for the Future 2024, which was organized with the support of UNDP Bangladesh and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. H.E. Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was present in the consultation as Chief Guest, and Mr. Stefan Liller, UNDP Resident Representative of Bangladesh, was present as Guest of Honor. Brig Gen Mohammad Khalil-Ur-Rahman, NDC, psc, te, Director General, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), was present as Special Guest, and Ms Louise Barber, Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office, UN Office of the UN Resident Coordinator of Bangladesh, was present as Discussant. Representatives from the relevant Ministries and government Officials participated in the consultation, along with Representatives from NGOs, CSOs, Academics, Researchers, UN Agencies, Development Partners, Networks, Trade bodies, Media, Youth Communities, and the Private Sector. “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow” Theme of the Summit of the Future 2024 will be held in the UN HQs, New York, USA on 22-23 September 2024, and Summit of the Future will agree on a Global Digital Compact: An Open, Free and Secure Digital Future for All. The topics discussed in this session were the UN Secretary General's 'Our Common Agenda' and 'Global Digital Compact’. Professor Dr Shameem Reza, Mass Communication and Journalism Department of the University of Dhaka moderated the first panel. The tone and context of the consultation were set by Mr Abdul Haque Anu, Secretary General of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum, with a vivid presentation touched on all the Responses and Actions of Bangladesh Initiative for Unified Voices on Global Digital Compact & Summit of the Future 2024 since 2022. Ms. Tahreen Tahrima Chowdhury, a Research Fellow of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), presented the keynote speech in the second panel. The second session's topic was 'Summit of the Future 2024'—Director General of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Brigadier General Khalil-Ur-Rahman, a discussant.
