Dear all The 2021 edition of India School on Internet Governance (inSIG2021, https://insig.in) is scheduled for 19-21 Nov 2021, with a Day 0 Fellowship “Meet and Greet” on 14 Nov 2021. This is the 6th edition of inSIG. Fellowship applications for inSIG2021 are now open at https://fellowship.apnic.net/index.php for submissions. The Fellowship option is available to applicants based in India as well as from around the world. Please note that the APNIC Fellowship Management System requires registration in order to make a submission. The Fellowship form is available until 10 Oct 2021. Dear At-Large community Really great to see that since the launch of the At-Large ICANN Learn courses in May 2021, that so many have taken up the courses and others have registered ready to start. https://www.icann.org/en/blogs/details/new-icann-learn-courses-about-the-at… Our latest figures show that : "154.1 At-Large: Welcome to Our World" has 11 registered but not yet started, 3 in progress, 43 completed. "506.1 ICANN Policy Development: A Guide for At-Large Participants" has 29 registered but not yet started, 5 in progress, 44 completed. But don't forget, there are also many other courses which will help you learn about how other groups work within ICANN as well. Well done to those who have been working hard to learn how they can become engaged with At-Large 🤓. Maureen

Domain Registrar Epik suffers data breach, includes scraped WHOIS records of persons/organisations who were not Epik customers

According to HaveIBeenPwned : https://haveibeenpwned.com/PwnedWebsites#Epik " In September 2021, the domain registrar and web host Epik suffered a significant data breach <https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/09/anonymous-leaks-giga…>, allegedly in retaliation for hosting alt-right websites. The breach exposed a huge volume of data not just of Epik customers, but also scraped WHOIS records belonging to individuals and organisations who were not Epik customers. The data included over 15 million unique email addresses (including anonymised versions for domain privacy), names, phone numbers, physical addresses, purchases and passwords stored in various formats." Ars Technica : Microsoft Outlook shows real person’s contact info for IDN phishing emails

If you receive an email from someone(a)xn--arstechnca-42i.com, is it really from someone at Ars? Most definitely not—the domain in that email address is not the same *arstechnica.com <http://arstechnica.com>* that you know. The 'і' character in there is from the Cyrillic script and not the Latin alphabet. This isn't a novel problem, either. Up until a few years ago (but not anymore), modern browsers did not make any visible distinction when domains containing mixed character sets were typed into the address bar. And it turns out Microsoft Outlook is no exception, but the problem just got worse: emails originating from a lookalike domain in Outlook would show the contact card of a real person, who is actually registered to the legitimate domain, not the lookalike address. This week, infosec professional and pentester DobbyWanKenobi demonstrated how they were able to trick the Address Book component of Microsoft Office to display a real person's contact info for a spoofed sender email address by using IDNs.
