Would Thursday, 22 Dec at 18:00 UTC be a good time for everyone? Silvia will send you the draft agenda based on the outline you provided in your note. Skype launches real time translation in your own voice using AI

This looks (and sounds) amazing! Via https://www.skype.com/en/blogs/2022-12-skype-truvoice/ : "Today we are launching translation of Skype to Skype video calls in real-time, using your natural voice. This means that you can have a conversation with someone who speaks a different language, and the translation will happen automatically, in real time, as the conversation is taking place.... This is a huge step forward for Skype, as it* makes it possible for people who speak different languages to easily communicate* with each other. It also makes it easier to conduct meetings or interviews with partners who speak different languages, as you can now have a *conversation without the need for a translator*. So, how does Skype's real-time translation feature work? It uses Artificial Intelligence to automatically detect the languages being spoken during a video call and translate them in real time. This is done using a combination of *speech recognition technology* and *natural language processing*, which are able to understand and interpret the spoken words and translate them into the desired language. On top of that, if you activate the use of your natural voice, we will use AI to sample your words and tune the translation to sound like you, making the conversation more human. Translations are available for a number of different languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and more."

Dear all, Sorry for the cross posting, but I believe that this post is relevant not only for EURALO, but also for At-Large, as there might be different views about the SoIs. I am checking if all EURALO Individual Members do have a valid SoI, and in this process I have found a couple of interesting issues. Some of our members have compiled the At-Large SOI at https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+New+SOIs+Workspace, while others have compiled the GNSO SOI at https://community.icann.org/display/gnsosoi/New+SOIs. Actually, a few have compiled both. There are differences between the two, as the GNSO SOI asks about constituencies while the At-Large SOI asks details about the ALS affiliation. My personal opinion is that the At-Large one is a better one to fully disclose potential conflict of interest of individual members, but I wonder whether it is an overkill to ask people who already have a GNSO SOI to compile a new one in the At-Large format. Looking at the UIM-WP recommendations, point 4 of the "Criteria for RALO Individual Member Acceptance" reads: 4. A RALO Individual Member must submit a Statement of Interest (SoI) - see https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+New+SOIs+Workspace for reference So the At-Large SOI is given “for reference”, but nowhere in the recommendation is stated that it must be the one to be compiled. What is the correct interpretation of the rule? Additionally, I wonder whether it would be a good idea to have an ICANN SOI, valid for all stakeholders, that has all the relevant questions (of course, the person submitting the SoI will leave blank the parts that do not apply for his/her situation)? Looking forward to hearing your opinion and/or what is the formal rule, if one exists. Cheers, Roberto

IGF2022 - Outreach and Engagement

Dear all! I use our mailing list to remind you (but I suppose everyone knows) that the IGF2022 has started today. The 17th annual IGF meeting will be hosted by the Government of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa from 28 November to 2 December 2022. To take part in it , please be registered and follow (participate) the sessions of your interest and the sessions in which our At-Large members and leaders take part. The program is available at the link: https://www.intgovforum.org/en/schedule/20221128 The forum program focuses on five key topics: - Connecting All People and Safeguarding Human Rights - Avoiding Internet Fragmentation - Governing Data and Protecting Privacy - Enabling Safety, Security and Accountability - Addressing Advanced Technologies, including AI The At-Large 2022 IGF workspace https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+Outreach+Activities+at… allows you to find names, a schedule of sessions with At-large members and ICANN leaders, as well as a place to post your short reports and photos. In previous years we thought about a tool which could help us to gather the contacts of IGF attendees who are very interested to be engaged in At-Large and ICANN PDP. I hope nobody can disagree if I suggest not just to share our website, but to send these requests directly to us for further building the communications with our potential members. It would be great if with the return to the hybrid format of our meetings, we returned to the previous great format of feedback and on-site interaction for those who personally attended global and local IG events and did Outreach and Engagement work there. I also would like to suggest gathering interested community members in December 2022 for the call and taking the opportunity to discuss the takeaways of IGF2022. Have a fruitful week!
