These are the working sessions of the case study teams for six the scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Greek, and Latin) being studied as part of the IDN variant TLDs issues project. The ICANN IDN Variant Issues Project (VIP): ICANN issued a call for volunteers on 19 April, see http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-20apr11-en.htm On 9 June 2011, ICANN announcement the start of the case studies, see http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-3-09jun11-en.htm The sessions on Saturday are closed because they are working sessions for the members of the working groups, in the same manner as the teleconferences of other WGs. However, the archives of mailing lists for the case studies are accessible to anyone https://community.icann.org/display/VIP/Mailing+Lists Additionally there is an open mailing list where anyone can subscribe and discuss. Case study teams will post work in progress periodically and engage in discussions with community, see https://mm.icann.org/mailman/listinfo/vip There will be an open public meeting on the Monday in Singapore to update the community on the IDN VIP. Just so we all on the same page of understanding this critically important public notice, I will add this to the BC agenda for Singapore. It is not a gTLD/GNSO policy issue but has significant implications for ICANN in governance/success, thus the officers will join me in assessing how best to address this issue, inform BC members broadly to help understand implications, including geo political issues, and how ICANN can best pursue its interest in retaining the IANA. It is both a technical and geo political issue. We will work to give the BC members facts, perspectives and dialogue. Whether the BC drafts comments is a separate issue and I am cautious on that front, but given governance issues, the BC will have a discussion in Singapore and thereafter, shortly after Singapore. Dear members, In reviewing the meetings schedule for Singapore, I noticed a series of closed Work Sessions in Chinese, Cyrillic, Greek and others. Does anyone have any idea as to what these meetings are? And why they are closed? Marilyn, could you perhaps explore this further with staff? I am thinking that there may be interest from BC members to participate in meetings around different scripts, but devoid of any information about them - and the fact that they are closed - is not very helpful for the community.
