Redesigned ICANN.ORG launches today!

The new information architecture arranges the resources that ICANN.ORG offers in a more logical style. More than 38,000 pages and files were carefully examined and migrated into the best locations, following extensive consultation with the ICANN community: 1. Nearly 300 responses to the site survey conducted by The Revere Group 2. More than two dozen in-depth interviews with SO and AC members 3. A series of live briefings (with Q&A) across two ICANN public meetings 4. At least three briefings to Board Directors (via the Public Participation Committee) 5. Two public webinars requesting input and concerns Some of the new features on the site include: * All visitors can now move directly from ICANN¹s home page to your SO or AC site in one click . * The latest Board activity and the most recent topics open for Public Comment now show on the home page. * The new Planet ICANN feed mixes almost every RSS and Twitter feed from ICANN in one ever-updating resource, providing a handy tool for monitoring ICANN developments broadly. * The new Stay Connected bar provides site visitors with easier social media integration to ICANN than we¹ve had before. * Across HTML portions of the site (thus, not in PDFs), you can now hover your cursor over that puzzling acronym, and what it stands for will pop up, spelled out, as a ³tool tip.² * For the first time, ICANN¹s site can auto-detect when it is accessed via a mobile device such as a tablet or smart phone, and present a view speciically tailored for the visitor¹s type of device. * On the home page¹s multi-lingual bar, you can click your chosen language to immediately see an aggregation of all materials available in that language. The most recent documents top the list. Note that the changes affect, quite literally, ICANN.ORG, and not other ICANN sites such as gnso.icann.org, alac.icann.org, the wiki sites, and so on. If you¹d like to provide feedback or ask questions about the new look and feel, please feel free to email communications(a)icann.org Thanks also for your patience and support during the careful process that has brought us to this milestone. The ICANN Policy Staff will provide a briefing on Thursday 1 March at 13.00 UTC and Thursday 1 March at 20.00 UTC, summarizing policy issues across the different ICANN Supporting Organizations, namely the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) and Address Supporting Organization (ASO). Amongst other topics, updates will be provided on: * Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy * RAA Improvements * Consumer Choice, Competition and Innovation * Study Group on Use of Names for Countries and Territories * Framework of Interpretation Working Group for the delegation and re-delegation of ccTLDs * Joint DNS Security and Stability Analysis Working Group * Participation and Engagement activities in Costa Rica The two sessions are duplicates, scheduled to accommodate different time zones. Each session, scheduled to run for 90 minutes, will be conducted in English only. The meeting will be run in Adobe Connect with a slide presentation along with a dial-in conference bridge for audio. The ALAC greatly appreciates your group’s interest in involving individual users in ICANN and looks forward to working with you and your colleagues. The purpose of ALS certification is to recognize that your organization meets the necessary criteria to involve individual Internet users at the local or issue level in ICANN activities, and that your organization will support its individual members' informed participation in ICANN efforts that affect end-users. The ALAC is eager to promote a productive working relationship between your organization, other ALS, and the ALAC (and ICANN in general), and your input on how we can make this a success would be greatly appreciated. The first meeting of AIGF will be organized by Kuwait Information Technology Society which will be held in Kuwait on the first week of October 2012. I am attaching the AIGF announcement. *Announcement of* *The endorsement of the Arab Internet Governance Forum (AIGF) process* A Multistakeholder open consultation meeting to discuss the launch of the Arab Internet Governance Forum (AIGF) was held during the period of 31/1 – 1/2/2012 in Beirut, Lebanon. The open consultation was organized by the League of Arab States (LAS), the United Nation Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Lebanon. The open consultation was sponsored by Kuwait Information Technology Society and RIPE NCC and was attended by the IGF secretariat. More than 50 participants representing stakeholders from governments, private sector, civil society and regional organizations in the Arab World attended the open consultation and engaged actively in discussing the importance of an Internet Governance Forum for the Arab World. The open consultation was carried based on the request of the Arab Telecommunication and Information Technology Council of Ministers (ATICM) to seek feedback from various stakeholders on the need for an Arab IGF. The ministers requested it after receiving the outcome of an expert group meeting that was organized by the ESCWA in October 2010 which emphasized on the need to have a dialogue on Internet Governance with relevance to stakeholders in the Arab World. During the open consultations, a strong consent emerged on the need and the importance for the Arab IGF especially with the turn of events in the region and the major role of the Internet in these events. A report recommending the establishment of AIGF was drafted by the participants and forwarded by the LAS Secretariat to the Executive Bureau of the Arab Telecommunication and Information Technology Council of Ministers (ATICM) on 2/2/2012, who welcomed the outcome, endorsed it and recommended the active participation of all stakeholders, including governments, in the Arab IGF process. The participants in the open consultations focused also on the goals of the AIGF and its structure. There was consent to adopt a structure similar to the IGF’s current structure with a secretariat and a Multistakeholder Advisory Committee (MAG). *A proposal was made by Kuwait Information Technology Society to host the First Arab IGF in Kuwait in early October 2012 and a proposal was made by the Republic of Egypt National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority to be the AIGF secretariat*. There was an agreement and consent on both proposals by the participants. It was agreed that a public announcement for the MAG membership will be made to give the opportunity for all stakeholders in the Arab world to express their interest to participate in it. Dear All, On behalf of the At-Large new gTLD WG, please find the Draft Proposal for the ALAC to submit public comments on, and file possible objections to new gTLD applications attached and on the At-Large Workspace <https://community.icann.org/x/EZnbAQ> for this issue. This document includes a cover sheet, explanatory notes describing each figure of the flowchart, and a flowchart of the proposed process. The complete document is in EN only at the moment. However, French and Spanish versions will be available shortly. A 21 day comment period is now open through Monday, 5 March 23:59 UTC. Please post your comments on the At-Large Workspace for this issue using the comments function. Comments will be considered by the At-Large new gTLD WG as they are received. The final version will be prepared by the At-Large new gTLD WG and sent to the ALAC for consideration during the ICANN Meeting in Costa Rica 11-16 March.
