CALL FOR MEMBERSHIP : Interim At-Large Curation Working Group- Deadline 16 May

Dear All, Olivier Crépin-Leblond, Chair of the ALAC, has requested a call for membership of the interim At-Large Curation Working Group. The At-Large Curation Working Group aims to raise awareness of the ICANN At-Large community and enhance end-users' engagement with the community by developing a strong and sustainable presence on social media. The At-Large Curation WG, in close coordination with At-Large Staff, is mainly tasked with implementing the Overall Social Media Strategy for At-Large (https://community.icann.org/x/lBcQAg) Since the WG won't be officially established until the ALAC addresses the issue during its Monthly call at the end of May, an interim At-Large Curation WG will be formed and functioning during the month of May, implementing the Overall Social Media Strategy. Dev Anand Teeluckingh has accepted Olivier Crépin-Leblond's request for him to take on the position of Interim Chair. Some of the tasks for the At-Large Curation WG include: * Create templates for 'fluid content' (e.g. messages from ALAC-Announce mailing list); * Plan and draft required quantity of 'static content' during each work period (e.g. background information about the people and work of the community); * Provide live coverage of ICANN meetings and events on social media; * Facilitate cross-community interactions via social media; * Monitor and analyze social media Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on a regular basis; * Assess additional digital channels for potential expansion; * Develop best practice and organization knowledge in social media management. At-Large Curation WG members should have some knowledge and experience in social media communications. At-Large Curation Members should be from all regions with at least one member from each of the following groups: * ALAC Subcommittee on Outreach (https://community.icann.org/x/cqfbAQ) * At-Large Capacity Building Working Group (https://community.icann.org/x/1Ic3Ag) * At-Large Technology Task Force Working Group (https://community.icann.org/x/FpfbAQ) * Each Regional At-Large Organization Interested members from the At-Large community are welcome to join. Dear All, As we celebrate World Press Freedom Day, I pay tribute to all the journalists who have lost their lives or been imprisoned, for their role in reporting. The Press no doubt have always held an edge in shaping popular opinion by virtue of their reach. Whilst the Internet has leveled the playing field by virtue of its ubiquitous nature and enabled ordinary men, women, boys, girls to "free" their stories via the internet through social media, one cannot discount the power of the "written word" or "picture" and "sound". Countries still have a long way to go on Press Freedom as the Press is still stifled in certain parts of the world. For indicators, see: http://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-press-2014/press-freedom-numbers#.U2… As we celebrate the Day, the themes that come to the fore of my reflections include: 1)Freedom of Expression 2)The Responsibility to Report Ethically (in a manner that allows the intended audience in developing a clear 3D perspective on whatever issues 3)The value of securing the newsworthy item has a cost on someone's life security etc. 4)The need for societies to mature to fully embrace the role of a free press 5)The wisdom needed for local, domestic press in reaching out to diverse stakeholders to educate people on the need to be free and informed. The Internet Governance forums and debates provide an excellent platform to enable and facilitate outreach, dialogue and discussion as it brings stakeholders to the table to discuss critical issues. Dear APRALO Colleagues, This the final week for workshop proposals submission to APrIGF Delhi 2014. Don't miss the chance and raise your issues of interests for discussion among the region now! ------------------ Final Call for Workshops Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum APrIGF Delhi 2014, India 3-6 Aug 2014 www.aprigf.asia Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) has been held annually since 2010. The Forum serves as a platform for aggregating IGF related discussions and collaborations at the regional level, and ultimately advances the development of Internet governance in the Asia Pacific. APrIGF 2014 will be co-hosted by Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) and National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI). The APrIGF Multi-stakeholder Steering Group (MSG) now calls for your participation in developing the Forum agenda in an open process by submitting workshop proposals or topics of interest based on the main theme: Internet to Equinet - An Equitable Internet for the Next Billion!
