Community Input on gTLD Recommendation 6 Report

Dear All, The ALAC has requested the RALOs to provide input on the Cross Community Working Group report on GNSO gTLD Recommendation number 6. Recommendation 6 states that: Strings must not be contrary to generally accepted legal norms relating to morality and public order that are recognized under international principles of law. The Report includes recommendations to improve the proposed implementation of Recommendation No. 6, related to procedures for addressing objectionable strings, while protecting internationally recognized freedom of expression rights. The public comment period on the Rec 6 report will remain open until 22 October 2010. Evan Leibovitch provided a draft document on Recommendation 6 on behalf of the At-Large community. Dear Yashar, ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) is pleased to inform you that the Information Policy Analytical Center has been certified as an At-Large Structure (ALS). The ALAC greatly appreciates your group¹s interest in involving individual users in ICANN and looks forward to working with you and your colleagues. The purpose of ALS certification is to recognize that your organization meets the necessary criteria to involve individual Internet users at the local or issue level in ICANN activities, and that your organization will support its individual members' informed participation in ICANN efforts that affect end-users. The ALAC is eager to promote a productive working relationship between your organization, other ALS, and the ALAC (and ICANN in general), and your input on how we can make this a success would be greatly appreciated. We would like to offer some initial tools to help your organization keep its members informed (about significant news from ICANN and information on ICANN policy-development efforts) and engaged in activities of interest: - Point of Contact for your Organisation: Please send an email to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org identifying the names and email addresses of one or two individuals who will be the point of contact for information and correspondence regarding ICANN At-Large. If this changes, please let us know. - At Large Mailing Lists. There are many At Large email lists, for each region; you can signup for them and manage your subscriptions at: http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/mailman/listinfo. The points of contact you identify will automatically be added to your region¹s list just for accredited ALSes to discuss regional issues and to the mailing list for Staff announcements (only Staff can post messages to that list); you are invited to join others as you wish. - ALS information. Information about your organization will be shared with the At-Large community to enable individuals interested in your group's activities to contact you, and to encourage cooperation with other groups interested in ICANN activities in your geographic region. Dear All, We have been asked by the Chair of APRALO, Professor Hong Xue, (and acting Chair Fouad Bajwa till October 6th 2010), to start an online election for the position of APRALO Representative to the ALAC for the period from the close of the ICANN Annual General Meeting 2010 until the close of Annual General Meeting 2012. Dear All, The At-Large Community wiki that has been migrated to Confluence is now ready for use by the At-Large community! The At-Large Community wiki is available at: http://community.icann.org under "ALAC". The At-Large Community wiki is accessible to all to view. As agreed by the ALAC Executive Committee, editing permissions have been given to members of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) and regional officers. Please note that the migration is a work in progress. Over the next two weeks, IT staff will continue to update the At-Large Community wiki from the snapshot that was taken on 6 September. Additional features will also be added. During this period, the At-Large Social Text wiki pages will remain accessible for reading and editing. However, we encourage those with editing rights to begin editing the At-Large Community wiki on Confluence as soon as possible.
