Capacity building - new webinar with APNIC on policy development

Dear APRALO colleagues, I would like to share with you the good news, that as a result of our collaboration with APNIC, we have discussed the opportunity to conduct a preparatory webinar on policy development. There is the need for some knowledge about what the issue is about so that we as ALSes can engage appropriately. APNIC professionals agreed to run the webinar for APRALO members and this webinar will also be open for other members of your organization (it also will be recorded in case if you would like to share it with your ALS members). The webinar is planned to take place on the second week of August, the doodle will be sent later this month to clarify the time and concrete date for webinar. We would highly encourage your participation, as well as further active involvement in policy development issues. Many of our ALSes have just spent time at ATLASII learning about ICANN and policy development, this is another stream so that many will also be interested in RIRs and learning about how they can contribute to policy development in this area as well.We would like to encourage our members to become involved, but in order to do so we understand that there is a need to learn what we are expecting you to get involved in and what it entails and I am sure this webinar will provide some in depth information on that. Arab IGF III -- Beirut, Lebanon -- November 26-27, 2014

Friends and Colleagues, I am pleased to inform you that the 3rd edition of the Arab IGF will take place in Beirut, Lebanon during November 26-27, 2014 at the Mövenpick Beirut Hotel <http://www.moevenpick-hotels.com/en/middle-east/lebanon/beirut/hotel-beirut /overview/?gclid=CK_q16Wq2b8CFennwgod6kgAEA> with a generous host from the UN-ESCWA. The theme for this years edition is An Arab Vision for the Development of the Future Internet. The official announcement in Arabic can be found at http://beta.igfarab.org/GetNews.jsp?news_ID=25. There are plans for a day-0 on November 25 where an introduction to Internet Governance will be covered, but this is pending availability of funds. Also, for those interested in organizing a workshop, there is a call for workshops at http://beta.igfarab.org/GetNews?news_ID=24. Again, the link is in Arabic. The deadline for workshop calls is August 20, 2014. The registration for the 3rd Arab IGF will open in mid-September right after the 7th Arab IGF MAG meeting and the Global IGF both to convene in Istanbul. APRALO response to APAC focuses

Hi Kuek I am sorry for the delay in getting this report back to you. It is a summary of the discussion that arose out of our APRALO meeting following your introduction. 1. COMMUNICATION APRALO is a large region - how can we improve communication between APAC and the regions (including the diversity of end-users within these sub-regions) so that local issues are appropriately addressed and coordinated? Subsequent comments from APRALO members reinforced the idea of sub-regional focuses because our region is so diverse. We do not believe that there can be a one-size-fits-all model that can be implemented across the region. 2. LANGUAGES How do we coordinate the involvement of ALSes to provide local translations of key ICANN/APAC/APRALO documents? A suggestion was also made about translations of resources which could be carried out by ALSes for their respective countries. 3. CAPACITY BUILDING How do we address and prioritise capacity building needs of end-users within APRALO subregions? A suggestion was to identify and share talents/skills within our region for capacity building activities - which could assist with decreasing the costs of outreach. 4. OUTREACH How can we ensure that there is equitable use of available resources to encourage ICANN outreach to the ALSes within the subregions and who need support for extending outreach into their respective communities about ICANN, its role within the internet ecosystem, and ICANN issues which ultimately impact on APRALO end-users ?
