Fellowship Applications for inSIG 2022 Now Open

Hi, For those who may be interested and a request to please spread in your communities. The Fellowship Application for the 2022 edition of the India School on Internet Governance (inSIG2022 <https://insig.in)/> ) is now open. This seventh edition of inSIG will be a face-to-face edition hosted by Hyderabad Chapter. inSIG is jointly organized by the six ISOC Chapters - Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Trivandrum and Hyderabad. The tentative dates are 25-27 Sep 2022 with Day 0 on 24 Sept. Fellowship categories: * Indian Fellows (25 seats) with travel (a/c 3-tier train fare by the most direct rail route), twin-sharing accommodation and fee waiver * International Fellows (15 seats) with twin-sharing accommodation and fee waiver but with no travel support. * inSIG Alumni are also welcome to apply for the current edition of inSIG. Process to apply: All applicants are required to apply in the Fellowship Application form on the APNIC Fellowship Management System available here (requires registration): http://fellowship.apnic.net Who can apply? * Any individual from India, from any stakeholder community (Government, Business, Civil Society, Technical or Academia), who has an interest in Internet Governance, and has in the past contributed or wishes to contribute to IG processes, may apply for this programme as an Indian Fellow. * Any individual from any part of the world can apply as an International Fellow. International Fellows are expected to raise funds for their travel and accommodation charges, but accommodation would be provided by inSIG2022. Timelines: Fellowships Applications will be open from 1st May 2022 to 10th June 2022. Results will be communicated by end of June 2022. Selection Criteria: Fellowship applicants will be selected by the Selection Committee based on different criteria such as background, experience and contributions and keeping in mind parameters such as geographical and gender balance and diversity. Declaration for the Future of the Internet

The long anticipated "Alliance for the Future of the Internet" was announced by the White House today in the form of a Declaration for the Future of the Internet. The declaration emphasises the values of democracy, rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms to "reclaim the promise of the Internet", through protecting and enhancing human rights, fundamental freedoms, trust, inclusivity and affordable access, maintaining a global Internet and refraining from shutdowns. The declaration also reinforces the support for multistakeholderism in Internet governance. 60+ "global partners" (referred to in the EU release as "international partners" and "signatories") are basically countries or territories, without using the word "country", most likely because of the inclusion of Taiwan. However, notably absent from Asia are South Korea, India and ASEAN countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. Only Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and a number of Pacific islands like Maldives, Marshall Islands and Micronesia are included from Asia Pacific. Also missing in the partnership are non-state actors, such as civil society and other stakeholders, although the declaration maintains the partners in the declaration will seek to work with them, as well as "other partners who share this vision", presumably other governments who have not joined the declaration yet. So, what's next? How effective will this be toward (1) more global participation especially from the global south, (2) more civil society and true multistakeholderism in this effort, (3) preventing the splinternet, and what kind of reaction will be drawn from the other camp, led by China and Russia?
