APRALO discussion points from the APAC-APRALO meeting

Hi everyone I have summarised the key points that APRALO members raised during yesterdays meeting with Kuek, outlining APRALO priorities/focus areas. They are as follows: 1. COMMUNICATION APRALO is a large regino - how can we improve communication between APAC and the regions (including the diversity of end-users within these sub-regions) so that local issues are appropriately addressed and coordinated? 2. LANGUAGES How do we coordinate the involvement of ALSes to provide local translations of key ICANN/APAC/APRALO documents? 3. CAPACITY BUILDING How do we address and prioritise capacity building needs of end-users within APRALO subregions? 4. OUTREACH How can we ensure that there is equitable use of available resources to encourage ICANN outreach to the ALSes within the subregions and who need support for extending outreach into their respective communities about ICANN, its role within the internet ecosystem, and ICANN issues which ultimately impact on APRALO end-users ? Just to recap on APAC's priorities - based on a survey they did a while ago: •Capacity Development •Stakeholder Participation •Awareness Building •Language Localisation •Regional Meeting Format Our focus areas are not too different from what APAC has identified as their focus areas - but I would like to present our priorities from a more sub-regional perspective because we cannot impose a one-size fits all model across our region. Kuek stated that there would be budget constraints but if ICANN wants to improve engagement by its members (and that's what the thematic papers are all about from this ATLAS meeting), then they have to consider our regional (bottom-up) needs and perspectives. Please send me your feedback asap. I would like to send our focus areas to Kuek perhaps by the end of next week. The sooner we get our ideas to him, the sooner we can work together on the final priorities list - and then Kuek and the other VPs can negotiate with ICANN about an appropriate budget. At-Large Engagement in RIR Policy Development - Issue Raised in Board Meeting with NRO/ASO today

ALAC and RALO Chairs, This morning the Board had a meeting with the NRO/ASO. The importance of At-Large community engagement in the policy development process of the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) was raised and discussed. Context: ICANN's remit covers Names and Numbers. The policy development process for Names takes place at ICANN while the policy development process for Numbers takes places place at the RIRs. It is important to have end user engagement in both. The existence of RALO-RIR MOUs is noted, but concrete engagement needs to follow-through. Issues raised: 1. Co-location of face-to-face meetings (i.e., RALO meeting in conjunction with RIR meeting) and need for ICANN funding to supplement RIR Fellowship funding. 2. Pre-meeting orientation program for ALSes to help them understand the structure and processes of the RIR before participating in the RIR meeting (face-to-face or remotely) 3. Focused participation in the Policy Development Track at RIR meetings + remote participation for those that cannot be on site 4. Participation in RIR Policy Development mailing-list (substance of RIR policy development is discussed via mailing-lists) - suggestion: RIR notification/alerts on Policy Development to be sent to RALO mailing lists so ALSes can prepare for engagement. My suggestion on follow-up: Leverage on the momentum created by the board's discussion with the NRO - RALO Chairs can follow-up with RIR Chairs respectively - RALO Chairs can discuss within RALOs on whether groups need to be formed to focus on numbers policy among ALSes - ALAC Chair can facilitate RALO interface with ICANN on funding issue Thanks! Your Participation is Important

Dear ALS representatives, Just would like to highlight about upcoming several meetings, which are very important for all of us to show what a wonderful team we are and participate actively: 1. Tomorrow, Tuesday, at 19:30 at Sandringham room will take place Fayre of Opportunities, where we will be presenting our RALO to the whole ICANN community. Please, if you have any booklets, information or any sweets/takeaways from your country, provide those to Ali Almeshal in advance today or tomorrow, for him to know what we have for APRALO table and put them on the table to look good - I would say to look the BEST!!!. Be sure also be in the room, in case if someone would like to know more details about your organization and help Ali to meet and greet people, visiting APRALO table. Treat them as you would treat your own guests in your own homes. Don't forget that APRALO colour is RED, so, please, wear something red tomorrow, to show that you are from AP region. We need all of us to be there on time, support to each other wherever is needed, even if not needed, to show everyone that we are BIG and DIVERSE, but at the same time UNITED team. 2. On Wednesday at 11:00 am we are holding APRALO General Assembly, thus everyone's participation is mandatory - this is the unique opportunity given to all of us to meet and know each other in person and discuss many issues, which are important for our region and to set the priorities for the next two years to move forward with. GA is an important meeting for all of us to share our challenges and successes, frustrations/disappointments, aspects which you think are worth touched upon - so this is YOUR space to be heard, to share, to learn and to teach!!! RALOs Showcase in the (ATLAS II Fayre of Opportunities )

Dear our great ALS’s , Looking soon to see all of those who have managed to make it to London, as you may aware there will be a major Showcase on Tuesday (*ATLAS II Fayre of Opportunities* ) for all RALOs, having said that we will be having our nice table there for all of your brochures , giveaways, local souvenirs , booklets….etc and other items you would like to share it with the visitors and other RALOs. Let us have it as a challenge to make our APRALO table is the best. So do your maximum to achieve this and share with us your ideas.
