Hi Everyone This is the final step for nominations from the RALOs for the BMSPC and he BCEC (apologies for the acronyms - but the email below spells out what they stand for. By way of explanation, one seat on the ICANN Board is reserved for an ALAC nominee. In the past few years, it has been Sebastien Bachollet - whose term will expire and a replacement needs to be nominated. ALAC, under its revised rules of procedure, wants nominees from all five regions involved in the selection process, along with some new faces. My nominations for the BCEC combined a new face - Ellen Strickland from InternetNZ, with a face all of you know and who has experience on the NomCom - and our Vice Chair - Sinanush. For the BMSPC, my nomination was for Fouad - who has been part of the process before, plus Maureen, again someone with experience in RALO. My hope in making the nominations was to bring in experience, plus some new faces, and provide some geographic diversity - from Armenia to the Pacific Islands, with a stop in between. APRALO call meeting notes

Hi Everyone Attached are my notes from yesterday's call. Silvia, please post on the APRALO report for October. Also, Silvia, could we have a wiki in the APRALO space for the Singapore meeting, to include the subcommittee on the Showcase event (Maureen, Ali and Pavan - please be ready to provide a preliminary report for the November meeting) and the Multi-Stakeholder meeting on Consumer metrics (I'll work with CLO, Siranush and Hong) Also, another wiki within APRALO for a draft MoU - again, Maureen, Ali and Siranush, we need input from you within the next week or so so that others can have a look and we can meet with the APNIC CEO to sign something. Rinalia - could you work with Pavan on Saaadun Shahrir and - from what you say is a defunct organisation. If they don't exist or have been inactive for years, then we should delist them - but need to make sure they do not want to continue as an ALS before we do that - so could we either contact them, or at least have evidence for us and ALAC that they really are defunct. And Silvia - Would you also confirm the APRALO meeting time in Buenos Aires for Wednesday 19 Nov at 1700 - it is not on the full schedule on the ICANN website. Thanks everyone Holly APRALO MONTHLY REPORT:October 2013 APRALO Meeting in October: - Action items: Karaitiaana Taiuru will have presented his research on the use of indigenous domain names by December, and can then work with Pavan to develop a webinar on the topic. - Spotlight: Ali Al Meshal talked about the many programs and activities of the Bahrain Internet Society. (his presentation will be circulated) - BCEC/BMSPC: The meeting confirmed the nomination of Siranush and Ellen for the Board Candidate Evaluation Committee. Maureen and Fouad have been nominated for the Board Member Selection Process Committee. - MoU with APNIC. Holly has talked with the CEO of APNIC about the possibility of an MoU with APRALO, and he is supportive of the idea. Maureen noted that APNIC already has an MoU with PICISOC. A Subcommittee of Siranush, Ali and Maureen was formed. - ICANN Meeting in Singapore (23-27 March) A subcommittee of Maureen, Ali and Pavan will plan a ‘showcase’ event for the meeting. Another subcommittee, of Siranush, Cheryl, Hong and Holly, will plan for a Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Consumer Metrics. APRALO meeting in Buenos Aires: The APRALO meeting in November is scheduled for Wednesday 19 November at 1700 Buenos Aires time (UTC -3 hurs) Update on ROP Review Working Group: Cheryl updated the meeting on the APRALO RoP, noting there will be more time on the issue in Buenos Aires. Report on IGF meeting in Bali: Rinalia reported briefly to the meeting on the success of the APRALO meeting on the universal acceptance of IDNs Policy Update: Olivier briefed the meeting on policy before the ALAC including Closed statements on confusingly similar gTLDs, DNS risk management, ccTLD delegation and re-delegation and the Whois privacy and proxy service abuse. Current policies include the ccNSO report on revocation, a revised PICs dispute resolution process, policy and implementation and a response to the ATRT2 draft report. Updating APRALO ALSs information in Wiki see: https://community.icann.org/display/APRALO/APRALO+ALSes; - This relates to ALL ALSs: please, visit this wiki page and update or post the information about your ALSs there. We need all updated information. Please, post your organization's logo and the brief information there. Participation in APRALO monthly calls. As you all know we have monthly conference calls and the information about our calls is being posted and reminders are being sent constantly via APRALO mailing list. We urge you all to participate actively in those monthly calls. A Working Group is developing a matrix to measure everyone's participation. It will be one of the tools we will be using when deciding who will be part of the At large Summit II (ATLAS II), which will take place in London, June, 2014. We are hoping you will be there, so we'd like to hear you all for our monthly meetings. 4. APRALO ALSs Spotlights - https://community.icann.org/display/APRALO/APRALO+ALSes+SpotlightAs you all are aware and this suggestion was proposed by many of you during our meeting in Beijing, from now on we will be having one ALS per call to present their ALS. This is a new initiative intended to showcase one APRALO ALS per month. The monthly APRALO Spotlight ALS will be asked to introduce their ALS during the APRALO monthly call. In addition information and activities of the featured ALS will be posted in this Workspace. We encourage you to volunteer for the coming months for this initiative and send in advance the information to the staff to post in Wiki space. During August call Satish Babu presented his ALS, Computer Society of India (CSI). We intend to post one week in advance to our calls the name of the ALS, which will be presented, for everyone to prepare the questions and comments to the presenter, to make this initiative more interactive and not just a presentation. Hi Everyone My proposed agenda for the next APRALO meeting is: - Spotlight - it is the Bahrain Internet Society presentation (Ali, do you want to send anything to Silvia for your spotlight?) - MoU with APNIC. I have had a chat with the CEO of APNIC at the Oz IGF - and he is very interested in an MoU with us - and wants to talk about what would be in it. The model is the one between LANIC and AFRALO - but ours would be different - APNIC already provides a lot of regional training, and I"m not sure we want the same level of funding since the APAC region's needs are different. But please have a look at the attached, and at the APNIC site (APNIC.org) to see all that they offer anyway. I'd like to be able to finalise something with APNIC in BA - and need to know what the APAC needs are first. - planning for Singapore. I know, it's a few months off, but we need to start planning for a showcase event now - and I"ll need some willing committee members - Report on the Bali IGF. I know a lot of you were there, and what I'd like to hear are the issues of importance to the APAC region and APRALO. (Pavan - you were there and can start the discussion - others are welcome to chime in) - Update from KT on indigenous domain names - can we start planning for the webinar? - policy update (it could be rushed - sorry) Thanks - and talk soon Holly
