Sotiris and all, Well it's about time. Of course I doubt no one on this forum is all that surprised at this legal action, however those of the ALAC doubtlessly are given its participants are relatively new to ICON, it's history, Network solutions history with ICON and the various shanagans that have occurred over the past several years. BTW, this pretty much points up Karl's original contention that ICANN has been involved in restraint of trade laws for some time now, and perhaps this legal action will gain some traction accordingly. Two things though about this legal action that I don't quite understand. new ALAC website open for real participation

Dear Jean, dear Bret, Hi all, something really spectacular happened at ICANN-ALAC/RALO Delhi Meeting: Nick gave a presentation on the structure and tools of a new ALAC website. The good news - we are back to free software based working tools. But the even better and almost unbeleivable news - after all the trouble we have been going through the last years - is: ALAC/RALOs can organize the structure of and feed in content on this website without having to go through a confirmation procedure by ICANN legal staff. No more delays, no more potential censorship and therefore, I guess, no more need to run a seperate website on our own. I am curious though what new legal perspective has been applicated. Anyhow, it seems there is, at least at this point, a real progress in ICANN's setting of participation procedures. It is great, that the time consuming parallel work and quarell and suffering from dealing with different websites of the last years seems to have an end. Congratulations to all, who helped to make that happen. Greetings Annette

Bad privacy example

Jeffrey, That is a very poor argument. That is saying that I should not take Tylenol because someone overdosed on Tylenol. I don't believe Whois databases include contains financial, or medical information. I last time I was in Spain, 1995, at the airport, I used a phone directory and a reverse phone directory. When I went in a Taxi, they had the name and telephone number of the Taxi visible. Whois privacy

If it is user of ICANN services, then users are the same as registrants. I am against Whois privacy, except in individual/non-commercial cases. I fight spam and I use whois as an attempt to track down spammers. No legitimate business operates anonymously. In the USA, a DBA is a public record -- If you operate a business, who the business is is public. Law enforcement tends to be slow to act (unless it is a hot political item). Try getting law enforcement to take a report on an e-bay fraud, bad check, etc. In some places you practically have to put a gun to their head to take a report. If you look at the recent criminal prosecutions for spamming, you have Ralksy/Bradley who had been civilly sued a few times before the Feds got involved. With Robert Soloway, Microsoft and others had gotten judgments against him before the feds got involved.

Losses From Cyber Intrusions at US Banks Rise Significantly

All my friends, This article significantly highlights why even well established banking institutions cannot be unquestionably trusted with their own clients financial information. It also illustrates why individuals must have control of what information regarding themselves should be in their hands only regardless of what industry they may be involved with, which is why the 4th amendment is so important and necessary to uphold. (February 20, 2008) A copy of a non-public Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) quarterly Technology Incident Report, financial institutions in the US experienced a considerable increase in the number of intrusions leading to account hijackings and stolen money over the last year. The report indicates that the cost of these breaches is increasing for all involved - banks, businesses, and consumers. The report looks into suspicious activity reports, or SARs. Banks are required to report fraudulent and suspicious transactions of US $5,000 or more. The report says that the average cost per SAR in the second quarter of 2007 was US $29,630; the average cost per SAR in the same period a year earlier was US $10,536. The majority of SARs were classified as "unknown unauthorized access - online banking."
