Hello All, I wanted to share the following announcement from ICANN for information purposes. Apply Now for ICANN's Leadership Positions Apply Now to Join the ICANN Board, the Councils of GNSO and ccNSO, and the ALAC 17 December 2010 Source: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-17dec10-en.htm ICANN's Nominating Committee (Nom Com) invites Statements of Interest and candidate recommendations from the Internet community for key leadership positions to fulfill ICANN's technical and policy coordination role. Interested individuals are invited to submit a Statement of Interest to the 2010 Nom Com for the following positions: - Two members of the Board of Directors of ICANN - Three At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) representatives (one each from the Africa, Asia/Australia/Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean regions) - Two members of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) - One member of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) The Nominating Committee (Nom Com) is an independent committee tasked with selecting a majority of the members of the Board of Directors and other key positions within ICANN's structure. ICANN is an internationally organized, public benefit, non-profit corporation dedicated to: preserving the operational security and stability of the Internet; promoting competition; achieving broad representation of global Internet communities; and supporting the development of policies appropriate to its mission through bottom-up, consensus-based processes. Individuals selected by Nom Com will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe, address the Internet's intriguing technical coordination problems and policy development challenges with diverse functional, cultural, and geographic dimensions, and gain valuable insights and experience from working across boundaries of knowledge, responsibility and perspective. Those selected will gain the satisfaction of making a valuable public service contribution towards the continued function and evolution of an essential global resource. Considering the broad public interest, those selected will work to achieve the goals towards which ICANN is dedicated in order to facilitate the Internet's critically important societal functions. Current Board members who have been selected by the Nominating Committee include: Cherine Chalaby, Bertrand de la Chapelle, Steve Crocker, Erika Mann, Gonzalo Navarro, Rajasekhar Ramaraj, George Sadowsky, and Katim Touray. Statements of Interest for the positions described above can be submitted through an on-line application form at (http://forms.icann.org/nomcom/soi.php) or by contacting nomcom2011(a)icann.org. More information regarding the Nominating Committee can be found at http://nomcom.icann.org. Applications will be considered in confidence and should be received by 4 April 2011 for full consideration. Selections will be announced in early September 2011. Successful candidates will take up their positions following ICANN's Annual Meeting in October 2011. Candidate recommendations are encouraged and can be submitted through an on-line form at (http://forms.icann.org/nomcom/suggestcandidate.php) and questions or comments may also be submitted to nomcom2011(a)icann.org. Background: The Nominating Committee is designed to function independently from the ICANN Board, Supporting Organizations, and Advisory Committees. Nominating Committee members act only on behalf of the interests of the global Internet community and within the scope of the ICANN mission and responsibilities assigned to it by the ICANN Bylaws. Nominating Committee members contribute understanding of the broad interests of the Internet community as a whole, and knowledge and experience of specific Internet constituencies who have appointed them. The challenge for the Nominating Committee is to integrate these perspectives and derive consensus in its selections. Although appointed by Supporting Organizations and other ICANN entities, individual Nominating Committee members are not accountable to their appointing constituencies. Members are accountable for adherence to the ICANN Bylaws and for compliance with the rules and procedures established by the Nominating Committee. Successful candidates are not remunerated, although direct expenses incurred in the course of duty will be reimbursed. Fluency in English is a requirement for all positions. These positions may involve significant international travel, including personal presence at periodic ICANN meetings, as well as regular telephone and Internet communications. Recent ICANN Meetings have been held in Brazil, Portugal, Puerto Rico, the United States, India, France, Egypt, Mexico, Australia, South Korea, Kenya and Colombia. Meetings during 2011 are scheduled for San Francisco, CA in the United States of America; Asia/Australia/Pacific and Africa. The diverse locations facilitate participation across the world's Internet community; an aspect of growing importance as ICANN's recently signed Affirmation of Commitments emphasizes ICANN's accountability to the community. -- Happy Holidays. -------------------------- Fouad Bajwa

RESULT: APRALO Poll on At-Large Board Director Candidates

Dear Colleagues, The STV poll to guide the APRALO Chair’s vote in the At-Large Board Director selection was quorate and ended with the following result: *Sébastien Bachollet was elected in count 1. * With Sébastien having received more than 50% of first preferences in count 1, or 4 out of a total of 7 votes, it was not necessary to go to a second count. The APRALO poll ended 24 November at 1000 UTC. ALAC-RALO Chair selection vote for At-Large Director ended on 25 November at 23:59 UTC. In order not to disturb the voting process, APRALO poll result was not released until the voting process ended just now. APRALO Chair, Hong Xue, had casted her vote according to the APRALO poll result. In addition, an ALS that did not participate in the poll wrote to all Chairs, Secretariat and Staff to indicate its support for *Sébastien Bachollet. *Its opinion is also recorded. Hi Adam, I missed the vote deadline because I was in travel. However, the vote from our end would have also been for Sebastian so there is no issue here. We didn't do an anonymous vote what so ever. I had sent an email on the deadline date sharing this intention but could not enter the poll before the deadline ended. APRALO Poll on At-Large Board Director Candidates

Just for the record I would like to give voice to my frustration. On November 22 we asked to change the voting member for IUSN Foundation to myself, and not until Friday, November 26, did I get the links and login to do the poll. It was then closed! What had happened I don't know as of yet, but the frustrating thing about all this is that my vote would have changed the outcome of the poll, since I was voting for Alan Greenberg. I have sent an email asking to count my vote even if it was too late, to chairman Hong, but of course she replied that it was too late to count my vote. Knowing it is nothing to be done, I just have to get the frustration out of my system. Per Darnell President IUSN Foundation
