The selected candidate will serve a 3-year term starting at the end of ICANN69 (2020 Annual General Meeting - AGM). Background Seat number 15 of the ICANN Board of Directors is dedicated to a member selected by the At-Large community. This seat is currently occupied by León Sánchez, who assumed the position at the end of ICANN60 (2017 AGM). His 3-year term will be completed at the closing of ICANN69 (2020 AGM), and he will be eligible for re-appointment. Pursuant to Section 19 of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Rules of Procedure<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/Rules+of+Procedure?preview=/226…> (RoP), the At-Large community began the selection process for the next Board Director in September 2019, with the appointment of the Chairs and Members of the BCEC and the Board Member Selection Process Committee (BMSPC). The BCEC is responsible for outlining candidate requirements and expectations, calling for, identifying, and evaluating applications, and compiling the initial slate of candidates. The BMSPC oversees the entire selection process, including the development of the selection timeline and the election process. Both groups have regionally balanced membership and operate in accordance with a strict code of conduct and confidentiality where applicable. The overall selection process will conclude by Wednesday, 22 April 2020. The successful applicant will be announced on or before that date. pitch to the board re: MS model

My thoughts about our pitch to the board later on this week re: the evolution of the MS model. We can only expect to have 15 min on this so am keeping it fairly narrowly focussed: Our focus would be on improving our ability to grow the MS volunteer community, increasing diversity, increasing participation. The goal has to be to build a system that can attract and retain volunteers in multiple locations and local contexts who can engage at multiple levels. There is no one size that fits all. In this challenge, the community must lead. That is where the expertise is, that's where the local knowledge is and where the solutions will come from. We need to innovate, take some risks and think outside of the box. Good theory, but in reality, there are lots of hurdles -- it is not so easy to get adequate funds moving in the direction of innovative community outreach programs. --- offer a couple of real examples. *The ask: In the interests of bringing more people into our communities to deal with the ever increasing workload, will the Board formally recognize and encourage efforts to innovate in this challenge of growing our community -- by lowering some of the barriers.* Marita

Dear All, In reference to the discussion and presentation that was being conducted by the Alan, I put forward an observation, Apologies in case I misheard the response from where one mentioned that when he's given an opportunity we shall be able to have many more Individual contributing and being active. I strongly believe that member volunteering should not be based on the decision of an individual, once one has the passion and believe they can effectively contribute to the various processes then they should be willing. The interaction between the ALS and their respective communities has got to be reviewed. Secondly, there are some ALSes whose work is not directly related to ICANN objectives. All these bring ideas on how the ALSes need to be reviewed. Let's not look at numbers without impact. Let's look at the impact and effective contribution from the wider community. Furthermore, I suggest that we have a discussion on the mailing list and also an online calls/meetings be scheduled where we discuss and deliberate on this issue. We should not wait for face 2 face meetings to discuss these critical issues. Despite the time constraints during ICANN66, thinking aloud we could have an unconference session to discuss this issue. The Bye-Laws are clear, work was done and I believe this is the time to do the review of the process involved in engaging the both ALS /individual Criteria and Expectations. Daniel K. Nanghaka ᐧ

Dear friends, many of our partners, like our brothers in Africa, have fallen into disgrace that their visa has been denied, this is not only frustrating but also that puts our ATLAS in a difficult citation. I don't know why we chose a place to do an ATLAS where crossing the border of that country (Canada) is similar to obtaining a prize for belonging to a select minority. But now we are dancing so in the middle of this dance I ask Is there anyone who can do something so that our partners can travel to Montreal in just six (6) days?
