Agenda Drafts for LA At-Large Meetings

Dear All: As requested on the teleconference today, I have tried to create room in the various meeting slots for all the items for which discussion time was requested. I have also provided draft budgets incorporating the three main themes of work discussed on the last Secretariats teleconference for those meetings, and provided on the Thursday afternoon joint ALAC/Secretariats meeting with time for the ALAC to be acquainted with the results of the Secretariats' work on these subjects as well as time for that work to be synthesised with the work ALAC is doing on the same subjects - especially in the forward- looking planning for the community for the coming year. I am certain that there are missing things (I have to go look at some emails provided by various of you during the budgeting discussions) however, what I hope I have done is broken the work down in such a way that the agendas are not too extensive for the amount of time of the meetings. As always - these are on Wikis - Members should feel free to propose/ add/delete as they see fit. This is hopefully a good starting place though. ccNSO liaison report

Dear All, The following is my report based on the recent telephone session. There will be another telephone conference before LA Meeting which I will also report on. That will be my last report as I'm not a candidate for the liaison position after my ALAC term is up at the end of LA Meeting. Here are the main points: 1. Work got underway for the Issues Report to start a PDP for cc IDNs. 2. A letter was sent out by ccNSO Chair to ccTLD managers to get an estimate of interest and preparation in starting a fast-track approach for starting a limited number of IDN cc's. Presumably a simultaneous letter went out from GAC Chair to GAC reps for the same purpose. 3.The charter of a WG was established with the ultimate goal of attracting more ccTLDs to ccNSO membership. In the first phase some research will be done. 4. A ccTLD Comunity List will be started soon. 5. A replacement is sought in North America region for Bernie Turcott of Canada who resigned ccNSO. Schedule Posted for ICANN’s 30th International Public Meeting

Dear At-Large & ALAC colleagues: Please note that ICANN has just posted it's schedule for the upcoming meeting in LA (see below) . ALAC nor At-Large events, do not seem to be listed. That being said, the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) has created a conference planning committee to develop a at-large schedule, one that hopefully will include a strategy day as well as more closely coordinate with ICANN staff so that key sessions related to at-large activities don't coincide with other events and/or sessions taking place. In order to plan in an open and transparent fashion, the planning subcommittee suggestions that you post any suggestions and/or comments on this list - so that comments are available to all. regards Robert -- Participants have six weeks to plan their ICANN meeting participation and input 14 September 2007 MARINA DEL REY, Calif.: ICANN today released the schedule for its upcoming 30th International Public Meeting slated for 29 October to 2 November in Los Angeles. “We wanted to get the schedule out well in advance of the meeting so the more than 1,000 people expected to attend can start planning their participation and be aware of the issues on the table,” said Paul Levins, Executive Office and Vice President, Corporate Affairs with ICANN. “The Los Angeles meeting is historic for ICANN – it is our 30th, it marks the end of Vint Cerf’s term as chair, will welcome ICANN’s new chair, and of course there will be discussions of major issues, including new generic top-level domains and internationalized domain names.” “On Tuesday night ICANN will host the meeting’s tribute to Vint Cerf to thank him for eight years of volunteer service on the board, seven of those as chair,” Levins added. New gTLDS 2. IDNs: ALAC Statement for the ICANN Board Request for Responses (Hong pointed out that we have to deal with this issue until tuesday!) 3. RAA Review 4. WHOIS Service 5. IPv4 - IPv6 Migration additional: 6. I think you have just proposed it ;) Honestly I'm entirely happy to propose a regionalised budget internally for the year beginning July 2008. We would just want to be careful that in doing so, all regions are treated equally resource-wise. As to participation, yes of course, I believe that it is not possible to have too much participation, and the broader-based that participation is, the better! I am in the (unfortunately rather protracted) process of acquiring two new members of staff, one for coordination and support, and the other dedicated to helping build the capacities of the RALOs. Until then, I'm the only one here, so having a more aggressive recruitment strategy has been impossible, but it would be very helpful if the community could work on such a strategy, so when the new people are brought onboard they would be able to help to implement it. Board liaison report

All, The Board met by teleconference on September 11. A detailed report is available at http://www.icann.org/minutes/prelim-report-11sep07.htm . The main decisions at the meeting were: - draft terms of reference for the Board review were put up for public comment; - Hagen Hultzsch, former Board member from Germany, was appointed as new Nomcom Chair for 2008; the Board also confirmed Mr. Ribeiro Filho from Brazil as Nomcom representative for academic institutions; - Delhi was chosen as host for the ICANN meeting in February 2008, while Dubai was recommended for a regional meeting in 2008; - .kp (North Korea) was delegated; - .me and .rs (Montenegro and Serbia) were delegated, on the basis that .yu should be discontinued in a reasonable period of time; - there was some discussion on some gTLD contracts, particularly .aero and .post, which present some open issues; - there was some discussion on Whois, where staff reported that support for OPOC is vanishing and the GNSO policy process is likely to end up in nothing. Discussion on the Board list, apart from general chat, was mostly focused on the issue of succession to Vint. The matter was deferred to a special meeting held on October 4 in Frankfurt, including the new Board members for 2008, in which the new Chairman was to be picked, even if informally. The final outputs of the WG are now being presented at the ALAC wiki https://st.icann.org/alac/index.cgi?alac_statement_for_the_icann_board_requ…. The WG is heartily appreciative for all the comments and suggestions from the users' community. New comments or revisions are still welcome. The public comment period is by October 13, 2007. After synchronizing all the inputs and finalizing the report, the WG will seek the approval of the ALAC for its submission to the Board at LA meeting.
