As you can imagine, it takes a considerable amount of resources to organize a multilingual presentation and it is only worth doing if there is a real interest from the non-English speaking language communities for these events. "Fast flux" is an evasion technique that cyber-criminals and Internet miscreants use to evade identification and to frustrate law enforcement and anticrime efforts aimed at locating and shutting down web sites used for illegal purposes. Fast flux hosting supports a wide variety of cyber-crime activities (fraud, identity theft, online scams) and is considered one of the most serious threats to online activities today. One variant of fast flux hosting, "double flux", exploits the domain name registration and name resolution services. Next AFRALO Teleconference: 4 June 1300 UTC

Dear AFRALO members, This is to remind you about the upcoming AFRALO teleconference on Wednesday, 4 June at 1300 UTC. There will be simultaneous interpretation in French and English. "As a global organization, coordinating a bottom-up consensus driven policy process, it's important that ICANN has input from every corner of the globe. The fellowship program helps ensure we have participation at ICANN meetings from people and places that may not be able to participate otherwise," said Theresa Swinehart , ICANN's Vice President, Global and Strategic Partnerships. At the most recent meeting held in New Delhi, India, in February, there were 18 fellows from 15 countries who played an active role at the meeting. They were chosen from 72 applications received. Of the fellows at the New Delhi meeting, five had been deferred from previous round selection, 11 had never attended an ICANN meeting before, and one was an alumnus from the San Juan meeting. Priority is given to applicants who are current residents of developing and least developed nations and interested in participating in ICANN and its supporting organizations, such as the Governmental Advisory Committee, the Country Code Names Supporting Organization, and the Generic Names Supporting Organization. The fellowship program will provide economy airfare, hotel and a stipend to the successful candidates. Recipients will be expected to actively participate in and contribute to ICANN processes, both at the meeting and in the future as a member of the ICANN community. Global Survey on Multilingualism in ICANN's Work Now Online 20 May 2008 ICANN today enabled an online survey, available in 11 languages including English, to facilitate understanding of the way in which the community uses existing materials prepared in multiple languages. It will also help ICANN understand how it could enhance multilingual access to the work of the organisation. This survey is also a key input into the public consultation process for the ICANN draft Translation Programme. The mission of the programme is to provide those who are not fluent English speakers with an equal level of access to influence and participate in the work of ICANN as those who are fluent in English. Ensuring Global Voices Heard at ICANN Cairo Meeting Those interested in participating encouraged to apply to Fellowship Program http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-20may08.htm 20 May 2008 MARINA DEL REY, Calif.: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is putting out the call for fellowship program applications for its 33rd International Public Meeting to be held in Cairo from 2-6 November 2008. "As a global organization, coordinating a bottom-up consensus driven policy process, its important that ICANN has input from every corner of the globe. The fellowship program helps ensure we have participation at ICANN meetings from people and places that may not be able to participate otherwise," said Theresa Swinehart , ICANN's Vice President, Global and Strategic Partnerships. At the most recent meeting held in New Delhi, India, in February, there were 18 fellows from 15 countries who played an active role at the meeting. They were chosen from 72 applications received. Of the fellows at the New Delhi meeting, five had been deferred from previous round selection, 11 had never attended an ICANN meeting before, and one was an alumnus from the San Juan meeting. Priority is given to applicants who are current residents of developing and least developed nations and interested in participating in ICANN and its supporting organizations, such as the Governmental Advisory Committee, the Country Code Names Supporting Organization, and the Generic Names Supporting Organization. The fellowship program will provide economy airfare, hotel and a stipend to the successful candidates. Recipients will be expected to actively participate in and contribute to ICANN processes, both at the meeting and in the future as a member of the ICANN community. As always, registration for ICANNs meetings is free for anyone wanting to attend. Applications will be accepted from now until 12:00 pm PDT (UTC -7) 3 July 2008.
