Hello there.... Another thought.....why don't Africans hold Sub-Region and then Regional brainstorming meetings on this before meeting during the ICANN meetings? It seems to be a waste of resources by attending ICANN mtgs with no outcome. As it is, the ICANN mtgs are not there fir Africans to meet and deliberate in issues which should have been done as a homework. Otherwise nothing will be done effectively if this trend continued. Those who attend ICANN mtgs should be there to share ideas from Africa Region not to go there to meet amongst ourselves ...we should be mingling and exchanging ideas with others... May I suggest that we make use of the resources provided in the African Strategy to do the homework? Just a mere advice on this ... I am not sure there was a report out of this joint meeting. If i do remember, we didn't have enough time to discuss everyting. It was mainly about explaining what those functions are and what the transition means but we didn't go any further, maybe due to time constraints. I would suggest we keep the same theme to allow those from the African community who were not present in LA and who will be in Singapore to contribute. But also, to further discussions on what is the role of Africa to help meet the NTIA's deadline as Mwendwa said earlier. I still haven't seen a proposal on how to hold Sub-Regional discussions under the African Strategy by ICANN* However..It is encouraging to read that you agreed with my broad suggestions. I do differ with the suggestion that we involve Regional Bodies such ad the AUC at this stage since it is beyond their mandate....you could do this at Country level as part of the implenentation of National ICT Policy (if there is any?) This will also facilitate the preparation of African Declaration . The challenges are many and we must objectively define the theme. Furthermore, for the case of Africa, we must remember to include regional organizations. Like europe when the European Union and the Council of Europe who actively participate in these discussions. It is necessary that all stakeholders in African countries are concerned and give their views. This process can only be possible if these organizations with the African Union are involved. We do not have to reinvent the wheel but we must seize every opportunity. We all call for the multi-stakeholder approach, but then we have to be realistic and pragmatic. I propose that this discussion on IANA transition should figure more prominently in the IGF programs at national, regional and continental levels. An African conference on IANA Transition organized by the African Union can be considered in 2015. These are suggestions of Team CAFEC during our General Assembly. Dear colkeagues abd friends, It is good to read about what our Continent aspires to do and has done in these processes. May I suggest that we follow some developments in the USA regarding current situation? The deadline of Sept 2015 might be a dream since it deoends on what the USGovt decides to do. In that case, it is suggestible that we look at tangible things sych as the intensifying the effort being made to further develop Internet-based ecinomic activities....there is more to be done in that area while contributing in the current 'politics of the Internet' which are US based. Just a thought on this... This award program seeks to recognize long-standing community members who have served in leadership roles in multiple ICANN working groups or committees and demonstrated collaboration with different supporting organizations and/or advisory committees. The Multistakeholder Ethos Award recognizes ICANN participants who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions, recognized the importance of ICANN's multistakeholder model of Internet governance, and contributed in a substantive way to the higher interests of ICANN's organization and its community. The nomination period for community nominees opens today, 10 December 2014 and closes on 02 March 2015. Community members interested in submitting a nomination are invited to send an email to ethosaward2015(a)icann.org<mailto:ethosaward2015@icann.org> including: * Name of nominee. * Community of nominee. * Reasons for nomination. Please note that the reasons outlining the candidate's merit for the nomination may be as brief or as long as required. Please indicate "Ethos Award Nomination" in your subject line. Candidates for the award will demonstrate at least five years of participation in the ICANN Community. A panel of ICANN community members is being gathered to help review all community nominations and determine the best candidates for the 2015 award scheduled to be presented next June at the ICANN 53 Public Meeting in Buenos Aires. The decisions of the panel will be made based on the following criteria: 1. Demonstrated multistakeholder volunteer service via working groups or committees. 2.
