Dear All Following our call for proposal for a theme for the Joint AFRALO/AfrICANN Meeting, which is expected to take place at ICANN 50 in London, from 22-26 June 2014, I pleased to inform that we have received two suggestions: 1. Greater engagement for Africans within the ICANN community 2. Review of current and future strategies for engaging Africans and ensuring their inclusion within the ICANN community. We wish to request comments(which one of the two do you support or some modifications) with regards to the above mentioned suggestions, if there is no other proposals. We are also requesting volunteers to join the Statement Drafting Working Group. We eagerly await your feedback or comments as time is not in our favour. A CALL THEME FOR A MEETING AFRALO/AFRICANN AT ICANN 50, IN LONDON

Dear All, As we have done during the previous ICANN meetings, AFRALO will be holding a joint AFRALO/AfrICANN meeting to discuss issues or subjects of interest to our region at the scheduled ICANN 50 meeting in London, which takes place from 22-26 June 2014 The purpose of this message therefore is to ask you to please, suggest a theme you think would be the most pertinent in this regard. We are also looking forward for presentation of a “joint statement” to the attention of ICANN at the end of this meeting. We would appreciate your proposal being sent as soon as possible (before 15 May 2014. Please note that beyond a this time period, If we do not receive any proposal; the Leadership of AFRALO will constitute a drafting committee that will decide the theme and propose to the Community a draft statement to ICANN. This statement will be discussed at the meeting in London. The subject chosen should be relevant to the interest of two organizations: AfrICANN and AFRALO. It should be noted that the interest of this tradition, which we organize together since Brussels, is to express the point of view of the African ICANN community on current issues of interest to the ICANN community. Le but de ce message est de vous demander de bien vouloir proposer un thème que vous pensez être le plus pertinent à cet égard. Cette réunion va aboutira avec la présentation d'une “déclaration commune” à l’attention de l'ICANN. Nous apprécierions que la proposition de thème soit envoyée dès que possible (avant le 15 mai 2014. Veuillez noter qu'au-delà période mentionné, si nous ne recevons pas de proposition; la direction d’AFRALO constituera un Comité de rédaction qui va décider du thème et proposer à la Communauté, un projet de déclaration à l'ICANN. Cette déclaration sera discutée à la réunion à ICANN 50 à London( 22-26 juin 2014). Le sujet choisi devra avoir l’approbation des deux listes AfrICANN et AFRALO. Il est à noter que l'intérêt de cette tradition que nous organisons ensemble depuis Bruxelles, est d'exprimer le point de vue de la communauté africaine de l'ICANN sur les questions d'actualité d’ d'intérêt pour la communauté de l'ICANN. They will be presenting information related to ICANN¹s recent announcement on Enhancing ICANN Accountability, which is currently open for public comment (see: http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/enhancing-accountability-06may14 -en.htm). Background on this issue: As announced at ICANN's March 2014 Public Meeting in Singapore, ICANN is initiating a discussion on Enhancing ICANN Accountability. This discussion will look at how ICANN remains accountable in the absence of its historical contractual relationship to the U.S. Government and the perceived backstop with regard to ICANN's organization-wide accountability provided by that role. While related to the ongoing discussions around the IANA Stewardship Transition, this is a separate process, though the output of this process is expected to be completed on the same timeframe as the stewardship transition work. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation. French and Spanish interpretation will be provided. A Call for Proposal for a Theme AFRALO/ AfrICANN Joint Meeting at ICANN 50

Dear All, As we have done during the previous ICANN meetings, AFRALO will be holding a joint AFRALO/AfrICANN meeting to discuss issues or subjects of interest to our region at the scheduled ICANN 50 meeting in London, which takes place from 22-26 June 2014 The purpose of this message therefore is to ask you to please, suggest a theme you think would be the most pertinent in this regard. We are also looking forward for presentation of a “joint statement” to the attention of ICANN at the end of this meeting. We would appreciate your proposal being sent as soon as possible (before 15 May 2014. Please note that beyond a this time period, If we do not receive any proposal; the Leadership of AFRALO will constitute a drafting committee that will decide the theme and propose to the Community a draft statement to ICANN. This statement will be discussed at the meeting in London. The subject chosen should be relevant to the interest of two organizations: AfrICANN and AFRALO. It should be noted that the interest of this tradition, which we organize together since Brussels, is to express the point of view of the African ICANN community on current issues of interest to the ICANN community. Le but de ce message est de vous demander de bien vouloir proposer un thème que vous pensez être le plus pertinent à cet égard. Cette réunion va aboutira avec la présentation d'une “déclaration commune” à l’attention de l'ICANN. Nous apprécierions que la proposition de thème soit envoyée dès que possible (avant le 15 mai 2014. Veuillez noter qu'au-delà période mentionné, si nous ne recevons pas de proposition; la direction d’AFRALO constituera un Comité de rédaction qui va décider du thème et proposer à la Communauté, un projet de déclaration à l'ICANN. Cette déclaration sera discutée à la réunion à ICANN 50 à London( 22-26 juin 2014). Le sujet choisi devra avoir l’approbation des deux listes AfrICANN et AFRALO. Il est à noter que l'intérêt de cette tradition que nous organisons ensemble depuis Bruxelles, est d'exprimer le point de vue de la communauté africaine de l'ICANN sur les questions d'actualité d’ d'intérêt pour la communauté de l'ICANN.
