Urgent: Call for Regional Representative on the ATLAS III Selection Committee
by Sarah Kiden May 2, 2019
by Sarah Kiden May 2, 2019
May 2, 2019
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite nominations for a regional representative to the
ATLAS III Selection Committee. We talked about this briefly during our last
monthly call. Please see the criteria below:
1. provide evidence that they have had some experience in the selection
of people for leadership positions
2. provide evidence that they have been a chair or co-chair of an
At-Large Working Group or an active participant and representative of
At-Large on an ICANN Cross-Community Working Group
3. be knowledgeable about ICANN policy and have been an active
participant in the CPWG or ICANN working groups on policy issues
4. be prepared to do training for their selection committee
participation and learning how to assess each application using the ATLAS
III scoring matrix
5. be prepared to participate in the selection process which may require
the evaluation of potentially over 100 individual applicants.
Please note that this position does not come with a travel component,
unless the person is already a funded traveler. No one who was on an ATLAS
Working group is eligible to stand for this regional position.
Please send your Expressions of Interest (EOI) to mbashir(a)mbash.net,
fsylla(a)gmail.com and skiden(a)gmail.com with a copy to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org
.
We would appreciate if we received your EOI by end of *Monday, 29 April
2019*. Your urgent response will be highly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Sarah Kiden
(On behalf of AFRALO Regional Leadership)

Je suis d'accord avec Falmata. Je crois qu'il faut arrêter les débats
stériles et travaillons sur ce qui peut nous faire grandir et qui fait
avancer notre région. Je suis quelquefois attristée par certains propos....
Mettons-nous au travail !

Dear All,
I have been reading the emails exchange about diversity with a lot of
regret.
I wish anyone who spoke on this had the time to internaly discuss within
it's own community before publicly expressing his/her views. We are all
human beings and as such, we all make mistakes.
We are a community aiming at building a better world and we will be making
mistakes in the process. But please let's not take it to an unhealthy
level and personalize the debate.
I would like to support Mohamed's last proposal of closing this regrettable
debate.
Please, all, let's move on to more productive issues.
My apology if I offended you in any way.
Peace,
Fatimata

Fwd: [ALAC-Announce] IMPORTANT - SECOND ATLAS III Webinars in EN with ES, FR interpretation
by Tijani BEN JEMAA May 1, 2019
by Tijani BEN JEMAA May 1, 2019
May 1, 2019
Français ci-dessous
---------------------------
Dear all,
Our exchange about election shouldn’t divert us from the necessary focus on ATLAS III process.
As you know, one of the hard criteria the completion of specific ATLAS III preparatory ICANN learn courses or the active participation in the specific ATLAS III preparatory webinars (especially for the non English speakers).
The second Webinar is organized in 2 identical sessions: one was organized yesterday and the second will take place tomorrow (see mail below).
I would like to insist on the necessity of this capacity building effort to be eligible to the ATLAS III.
Thank you for your understanding.
----------------------------
Chers tous,

Dear Colleagues, Friends
It was a successful year for AfRALO, we did achieve a lot in 1 year, AfRALO members were actively engaged and also leading in the different policy working groups, Thanks to everyone for the good work.
Thank you for giving me the chance to lead AdRALO, after extensive consideration I have decided to step down from the Chair position due to personal reasons.
As the nomination period has officially announced I would like to nominate Seun Ojedeji for AfRALO Chair position.
I first met Seun when he attended his first ICANN meeting in Singapore ICANN49, he was a fellow soon he becomes one of the active, energetic and engaged African participants in ICANN. From the ICANN Accountability to his recent ALAC membership he always a good representative for AfRALO.
I trust Seun will be an excellent AfRALO chair.
Again, Thank you all for your support during my AfRALO chairmanship.
Kind Regards,
Mohamed Elbashir
AfRALO Chair
————————————————————
Mohamed Elbashir

Dear All,
On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to announce that the 2019 call for nominations is now open for positions to be filled as ALAC Members, RALO Leaders and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom for the AFRALO, APRALO and EURALO electorates.
Following its own bylaws, NARALO opened its call for nominations nearly two weeks ago; LACRALO will hold its call for nominations on 3 May until 10 May.
Positions Open:
Please refer to the 2019 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Workspace <https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2019+ALAC+and+RALO+Elections%2C…> for a comprehensive list of all available positions and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection.
Terms:
· ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2021 AGM.
· RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2019 AGM.
· ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2019 AGM and ending at the close of the 2020 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resource…>. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message.
Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:
* 29 April 2019 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
* 29 April – 10 May 2019 - Nomination period.
* 17 May 2019 - Deadline for nomination acceptances.
* 20 May – 22 May 2019- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs.
* 23 May – 30 May 2019 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
* 2019 AGM [ICANN 66] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2019 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 7 November 2019.
Process for Nominations:

All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__community.icann.org_di…>).
Nominations, including self-nominations must be made directly to their RALO’s mailing list, as well as posted to the 2019 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Workspace<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2019+ALAC+and+RALO+Elections%2C…> or by sending a note to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>.

· Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
· Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
