Hello all, It will be exiting to participate in the Latin generation panel work. I have followed the ICANN work for IDN in the root zone during the last couple of years. I am a native speaker of Swedish, and I live and work in Sweden. I have a BA in Phonetics/Linguistics at Stockholm University, Sweden, many years back. I have also done research work, teaching and never-finalized graduate studies at Stockholm University during the years after I got my BA. Since 1999 I have worked as DNS specialist both at the .SE TLD and at an ISP in Sweden. The last three years I have worked for IIS (.SE TLD Registry) who is contracted to be the ICANN Pre-Delegation Testing (PDT) Service Provider that tests all the New gTLDs before they are added to the root zone. The PDT includes tests of second level IDN compliance both against the IDN standards and other policy. We have processed thousands of IDN tables, and we have seen many different flavors. Having a background in Linguistics has been helpful in that work. IDN is an interesting intersection of language, culture and DNS. As I understand, the next meeting in the panel is at 11 January 2017, so talk to you then. Dear colleagues, Here are some notes on the conference call held on December the 7th, 2016. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Following GP members were present on the call: Ahmed Bakhat Masood Hazem Hazzah Meikal Mumin Michael Bauland Mirjana Tasić Sarmad Hussain The last GP proposal version 13 was discussed. 1.Meikal will help to clarify following text * “A letter with two diacritics, for example, ḉ, may be typically represented in several ways in Unicode – as a pre-composed form (U+1E09), or as the letter and the first diacritic with the second added (U+0107 ć + U+0327 ̧ COMBINING CEDILLA), or with the letter and the second diacritic with the first diacritic added (U+00E7 ç + 0301 / COMBINING ACUTE ACCENT)” in the last paragraph, in the topic 1.1.1 Diacritics, commented by Asmus 2. Sarmad will help with proposal of the tentative working plan of the panel. The tentative plan will be uploaded on Google Docs. This document will be the starting document for further discussion. 3. Mirjana has to upload last version of Proposal on Google Docs. 4. Dear colleagues, I am sending you new version of Latin GP proposal. I used this time Dropbox because Google docs has changed the formatting of the document, when I copied it there. I have tried to incorporate everything we agreed during last conference call on November 23rd. On November 23rd, we had following members on the call: Ahmed Bakhat Masood Meikal Mumin Mirjana Tasic Sarmad Hussain We have agreed: · to state somewhere in this document or in the final document acknowledgement to Chris Dillon who was the previous chair of Latin GP. · to arrange the table with panel members, first panel members, then observers. · to cite the panel limitations in expertise and to specify that panel will need some help form ICANN provided experts · Mirjana will make new version of the Proposal keeping in mind that the proposal should look more like the other GP proposals, the proposal has to be more formal, only with necessary information as it was stated in Setting up and running a Generation Panel<https://community.icann.org/download/attachments/42730830/Setting%20up%20an…> . · Sarmad will help to make proper Panel work plan. New version of GP proposal has similar structure like other GP panels. I think all topics are there, although it is necessary to fill all the necessary information in it. Hi all, I have heard that there may be a phone conference scheduled this week. If so, when will it take place? Is there anything specific I can do/read in preparation for the call? I already read the notes of the last meeting, which is linked at https://community.icann.org/display/croscomlgrprocedure/Latin+GP. I also read the Draft Panel Formation Proposal, which seems to be a version from Feb 5, 2016 (or is there somewhere a more recent one I did not find?). Dear All, I am happy to announce that Dr. Michael Bauland has agreed to join the Latin GP. He has background knowledge from the registry and registrar perspectives, as well as an understanding of the DNS system.
