[English] Hello All, As you may know, AFRALO organizes during each ICANN meeting, a joint AFRALO/AfrICANN meeting to debate a topical issue. It generally leads to issue a statement containing recommendations addressed to the ICANN, highlighting the views of the African ICANN community on the subject discussed in terms of interests and specific conditions of Africa. The theme for the Singapore meeting is "ICANN Accountability". You are kindly invited to come and participate to this AFRALO/AfrICANN joint meeting, in Face-to-Face or in remote participation if you are not in SINGAPORE. Please find attached the draft statement to be discussed. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 between 14.00 and 15.30 in the VIP Room. The NomCom shall be composed of four members as follows: • One member selected from within the AFRINIC Board • Three members selected by the AFRINIC Board from the community. We are now looking for volunteers from the community to fill the three open positions on the 2015 NomCom. For fairness, volunteers are expected to not be from a region where a Board seat is up for renewal. Responsibilities of the NomCom are defined in section 9 of the AFRINIC bylaws and comprise of the following. • Call for candidates for all open elections (above). • Describe all criteria and qualifications for eligibility to stand for election. • Where necessary, interview candidates prior to final candidate slate. • Communicate the final list of candidates for any election. AFRINIC staff will provide logistical support to the NomCom throughout their mandate. Such support includes publication of the list of nominees, compilation of comments, mailing list moderation, website update, communication with nominees and other duties pertaining to the roles and responsibilities of the NomCom. NomCom members are expected to: • Be neutral: Have no interest in the results of the elections. • Be trusted members of the AFRINIC community. • Have good knowledge of the AFRINIC business environment. • Do their best to fulfill their responsibilities without financial remuneration. Thank you Professor for this notification. As much it is important to meet F2F or remotely on the Accountability concern. While supporting the initiative and based on what I saw during the same meeting in ICANN Durban 2013, I would wish if you ciukd extend the Agenda to include Transparency since many people out here are concerned about the Transparency issue as well. Lastly. ..I wish that the meeting is attended effectively by the Africa Strategy teams. ..not in a rushed manner I witnessed in Durban which was discouraging and undermining .. Dear All, On behalf of Olivier Crépin-Leblond, Chair of the ALAC, please find attached a Council of Europe report entitled “ICANN’s procedures and policies in the light of human rights, fundamental freedoms and democratic values” authored by Dr Monika Zalnieriute and Thomas Schneider. This draft report was discussed during the ALAC and Regional Leaders Working Session on Sunday, 12 October. There will also be an open community discussion on A human rights perspective on ICANN’s policies and procedures on Wednesday, 15 October 2014,between 13.15-14.45,in the Encino Room in the ICANN 51 venue. Please find a flyer of this event attached with the details as this session is not on the public schedule. Given the interest in this report, there will be an At-Large Capacity Building Webinar on this topic scheduled for early November.
