Terms: · ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2022 AGM. · RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2020 AGM. · ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2020AGM and ending at the close of the 2021 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resource…>. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message. Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: * 27 April 2020 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement. * 27 April – 8 May 2020 - Nomination period. * 15 May 2020 - Deadline for nomination acceptances. * 18 May – 22 May 2020- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. * 22 May – 29 May 2020 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). * 2020 AGM [ICANN 69] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2020 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 22 October 2020. Process for Nominations: All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>. Will involve travel to up to 4 meetings. * Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. He is a member of the African community of ICANN (africann) and participated in the development and follow-up of the African strategy Alex is a lecturer and researcher at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Senegal and is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Computer Engineering Department of the École Polytechnique. I Also thank Michel and Dave for their support to the nomination. I’m proud of your trust. Nevertheless, I would like to let you know that I decided not to contest the position letting others do. I have been there for a while, and it is wise to permit to the other members to enter the ALAC as AFRALO representative. I came to AFRALO in 2008, and I tried my best to raise the image and the credibility of AFRALO by several initiatives such as organizing an ALS showcase every time the ICANN meeting is held on an African land, a face to face capacity building for the African ALS representatives, the AFRALO-AfrICANN joint meeting where we debate an ICANN hot topic and come up with a statement representing the consensus opinion of all Africans participating in the ICANN meeting, as well as the local community engagement that permitted us to bring local community members of the country (or sub-region) where the ICANN meeting is held into the ICANN meeting and engage them (Durban, Marrakech 2016, Johannesburg and Marrakech 2019), etc. This has been achieved with your confidence and your engagement, and also because we had at that time engaged and collaborative people at the AFRALO leadership. Of course, I can’t forget to mention the encouragement and the help of the ALAC Chair at that time, and the support of some of the Board members The image of AFRALO jumped very high and our RALO was and still is the only RALO who discuss policy issues and provide their opinion thereupon. It is the first to do showcases, capacity building, local community engagement, etc. All the other RALOs followed. All this wouldn’t be possible without our unity, without the engagement of all who can dedicate time and energy, and without the trust and encouragement of those who can’t because of their heavy duties elsewhere. United, we did all this and we are at the top of our visibility and credibility. I do thank you very much for all you gave to AFRALO and AFRICA. Thank you for staying united despite several attempts to divide our community. AFRALO is strong because we all think of the benefit of AFRALO, not our own interest. Please keep it like this. Finally, I’m sorry to decline the nomination, and I would like to thank all those who reach out to me privately asking me to accept the nomination. I do understand your rational, but I think it’s wise to step down, even if it is for a moment. I let AFRALO in good hands, and I’m sure the current and upcoming leaders will continue the job and even raise the bar higher. Calendrier de la sélection pour les dirigeants des RALO, les Membres de l'ALAC et les délégués de l’ALAC au NomCom: • 27 avril 2020 - Annonce de l’appel à candidatures et la déclaration du candidat • 27 avril au 8 mai 2020 - Période de nomination • 15 mai 2020 - Date limite pour les acceptations de candidatures • 18 mai au 22 mai 2020 – Appels avec les candidats si les RALO le désirent. • 22 mai au 29 mai 2020 - Élections - (si nécessaires, les élections commenceront au plus tard une semaine après la date limite d’acceptation des candidatures et se termineront au plus tard deux semaines après ce délais). • 2020 AGA [ICANN 69] - Les représentants nouvellement élus prendront place à la fin de l’assemblée générale 2020, suite à la clôture de la réunion du Conseil des Membres du Board le 22 octobre 2020. Processus de Nominations: Tous les candidats doivent soumettre une déclaration brève au personnel At-Large (staff(a)atlarge.icann.org<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>) qui explique pourquoi ils pensent être un candidat approprié. C’est une fonction très importante et tous les candidats doivent répondre à des critères importants. • Familiarité avec les groups de l’ICANN nommés par le NomCom (Conseil d’Administration, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO). • Capacité à juger les gens (comme lors de l’entrevue et de l’embauche). • A l’aise et de préférence courant en Anglais (écoute, lecture et parler). • Bonnes compétences en ligne telles que sur Google et les médias sociaux. • Engagement au niveau du temps. Doit être dispose à consacrer beaucoup de temps dans des délais serrés (mars à juin). Cela impliquera de voyager jusqu’à 4 réunions. • Capacité de travailler dans un environnement de groupe, defender ce que vous croyez dans une discussion avec d’autres personnes “fortes” mais en même temps, doit être un bon auditeur et être prêt à changer d’avis si quelqu’un d’autre à un bon argument. La diplomatie est importante.
