Subject: [AFRI-Discuss] Nomination Acceptance: NOW OPEN: 2023 Call for At-Large Leadership Positions
Dear All,
It is with honour and gratitude that I am writing to accept my nomination to the position of AFRALO Chairperson. I thank Sarah for her trust and nomination and thank you all for giving me the opportunity to run for the role. I understand fully the responsibilities of the role and look forward if elected to working with all of the AFRALO community.
Short Bio Hadia ElMiniawi
Hadia is an engineer by training, she started her career in 1995 at the Egyptian Universities Network (EUN) Egypt's Top level domain, connecting academic and scientific sites to the Internet. She spent most of her career in Internet development related roles. During her tenure at the EUN, Hadia played a major role in helping academic sites design their networks and connect to the Internet. Hadia worked on the implementation of enhancements to existing systems and helped in developing and setting the .eg registry policies as well as developing user documentation and training material. Throughout her career at the Egyptian Universities Network, Hadia took many roles and responsibilities, such as technical operations manager for .eg registry, IPv6 project manager, and foreign relations manager. In 2014, Hadia joined the National Hungarian Trading House in Budapest as deputy to the director of the Arab Countries Department and later as acting director.
Currently Hadia is Chief Expert on International Policies at the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt. Hadia is Co-Chair of the At-Large Consolidated Policy Working Group (CPWG) and the lead of the At-large Capacity Building Working Group (CBWG) workshops team. Hadia is an active member of the At-large community, she has been a participant to several ICANN PDPs. Currently Hadia is one of ALAC representatives to the EPDP on IDN gTLDs, previously she was one of ALAC two representatives to the EPDP on gTLD registration data. Hadia has contributed and been the pen holder of several AFRALO statements and ALAC public policy comments. Hadia is also interested in Internet governance and has organized a couple of sessions in previous AFIGFs and Global IGFs. Hadia is vice chair of the Middle East and Adjoining Countries (MEAC) Strategy Working Group and a member of the Middle East DNS Forum Program Committee.

Process for Nominations:
Nominations including self-nominations, must be made directly to the relevant RALO mailing list and by sending a note to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>.
All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>. All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__community.icann.org_di…>).
IMPORTANT: Criteria for NomCom Delegates
Specific criteria and requirements regarding the NomCom composition and NomCom delegates are outlined in the ICANN Bylaws in Article 8<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/governance/bylaws-en/#article8>.
Please read the Job Description for NomCom Delegates<https://community.icann.org/download/attachments/231375118/2024%20NomCom%20…>. Additionally, please note the following as you select and appoint your delegate to the 2024 NomCom:
* Ineligibility for Service – Current or future ICANN employees or paid ICANN consultants (including Ombudsman) are excluded from consideration for eligibility as described in Article 8, Section 8.9 of ICANN’s Bylaws<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/governance/bylaws-en/#article8>.
* The ICANN community is diverse and the composition of the NomCom should reflect this in order to fulfill its mission.
* NomCom delegates should have a high-level network of contacts essential to candidate recruitment.
* The delegate should be able to join monthly teleconferences. Note that the NomCom's workload will increase significantly during the candidate assessment process. Conference calls are held more frequently during this time as well (typically weekly and the duration of the calls may last up to three hours).
* All NomCom delegates should have the ability to travel to and participate in ICANN Public meetings and NomCom meetings when requested (travel and hotel accommodations will be provided for all approved meetings). If travel is restricted, then NomCom delegates will meet virtually.
IMPORTANT: RALOs may recommend one or more candidates to the ALAC. The appointment of NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. Therefore, RALO recommendations are not binding.

Dear AfrALO Community,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to let you know that I am very thankful for the nomination of Prof. Aziz Hilali as an AFRALO representative in ALAC. Aziz has been a key member of the AFRALO family, and his dedication, leadership, and expertise have significantly contributed to the improvement of our organization.
As a testament to his unwavering commitment, Prof. Aziz has successfully led the organization of two African ICANN meetings: ICANN55 and ICANN65 in Marrakech. Both events were met with success, thanks to his excellent organizational skills and ability to bring together diverse stakeholders.
His proactive approach and his deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the African community make him the ideal candidate to represent AFRALO in ALAC.
I also support the nominations of:
- Hadia El Miniawi as AfrALO Chair
- Bram Fudzulani as Vice Chair
- Seun Ojedeji as NomCom representative
Thank you!
Best Regards,
Mohamed Elbashir

Hello All,
I would like to nominate Prof. Aziz Hilali as an AFRALO representative in ALAC. Aziz has always been a very active member of the AFRALO family. He successfully carried out many activities greatly contributing to the improvement of our Organization. He led the organization of two African meetings ICANN55 and ICANN65 in Marrakech, with great success. Prof. Aziz has proven his excellent leadership, experience and expertise in working for AFRALO. I am sure he will perfectly represent Africa in ALAC.
I would also like to nominate Seun Odjedi to represent AFRALO in the NomCom. Seun demonstrated his excellent leadership style, hard work and dedication to success during his tenure as AFRALO Chair. He has been very active and has tremendously contributed to the African community’s engagement in ICANN. I have no doubt that Seun will contribute even more as a NomCom member.
I kindly invite my AFRALO colleagues who can confirm their positive achievements to support these 2 nominations.
Thank you.
Warm greetings and best wishes to all of you,
Fatimata
