I carefully read all reports related to geographic diversity. Even it is posted for public comments, besides some contestation from Arabic countries, I guess the decision to keep the RIRs division, but allowing some inter regions movement as for some Caribbean and Asia countries to move to other more cultural related region, together with allowing mother countries to keep their territories under their skin, will end the process without further consideration and the Board may approve it after the comments , to start implementation. There will be a road map for such implementation, since several AC & SOs bylaws shall be modified, but I believe if approved, during 2012 it shall be concluded without difficulties. But LACRALO will need to review its. May be the Arabic countries would form a sub region to be considered for some groups ( may impact more ALAC and NOMCOMM activities than others). In general I would support such report and suggest ALAC should work about the Arabic countries and how they will be considered in a more focused way. The ICANN Policy Staff will provide a briefing on Thursday 13 October at 12.00 UTC and Thursday 13 October at 19.00 UTC, summarizing policy issues across the different ICANN Supporting Organizations, namely the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) and Address Supporting Organization (ASO). Amongst other topics, updates will be provided on: * Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy Issue Report (GNSO) * Post-Expiration Domain Name Recovery (GNSO) * Recent WHOIS work * Study Group on Use of Names for Countries and Territories (ccNSO) * Framework of Interpretation Working Group for the delegation and re delegation of ccTLDs (ccNSO) * Joint DNS Security and Stability Analysis Working Group The two sessions are duplicates, scheduled to accommodate different time zones. Dear All, The ICANN Geographic Regions Review Working Group has published its Draft Final Report for comment. The draft final report outlines specific recommendations from the Working Group to the ICANN Board regarding how the present Geographic Regions Framework can be modified to ensure that the organizational principles of geographic and cultural diversity are honoured and maintained. A key recommendation from the Working Group is for ICANN to adopt its own Geographic Regions Framework based upon the assignment of countries to regions that currently underlies the organization of the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). The new Geographic Regions Framework would govern the make-up of the ICANN Board and should serve as the default for other parts of the ICANN community. The Working Group further recommends that the ICANN Board give the ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees the opportunity to either directly apply the new framework to their operations or to present the Board with their own particular diversity methodology that is more appropriate to their unique operational and community characteristics. There would be significant changes for LACRALO if the proposed Geographic Framework is adopted by ICANN and ALAC. Currently, there are 33 countries in the LAC region as recognized by ICANN.
