Colleagues in LACRALO, here are the two latest reports from SSAC. They provide clear signs that LACRALO's foci of attention are lagging behind the cutting edge for something like ten or even fifteen years (considering only matters seen by LACRALO in the last six months.) I also noticed severe lagging behind in the recent NARALO readout of the latest ICANN meeting (Hamburg), where the speakers were not aware of the history of WSIS (20 years lag) and anycast (15 years lag at least.) The community and its leadership need to craft a program to catch up. Not only LACRALO but also At Large as a whole is becoming irrelevant, at best, or even a liability for ICANN. I don't see many alternatives to disbanding the present LACRALO membership and carefully starting a new accreditation process for the ALS's, in which the ability to deal with issues such as those in the SSAC reports is credibly demonstrated. QR code usage is increasing but still limited except in Asia. · Decreased domain name visibility makes it easier for fraudsters to deceive users with lookalike names. Users are also generally unaware that some TLDs signal a different resolution context. In summary, domain names are no longer the primary method end users employ to find and access Internet resources, decreasing their visibility and understandability while introducing security issues.
