During test data production Bill found the following: „In the course of this, I came across the Serer language (ISO 639-3 srr). It isn't in our list of languages included, but it is EGIDS 5 and has roughly 1.2 million native speakers so it would appear to fit our criteria. Also the Kpelle language (ISO 639-3 kpe), which is also EGIDS 5 and has about 1.4 million native speakers. Adding Serer would entail adding 3 code points for Serer to the repertoire: U 0188 Small Letter C with Hook ƈ U 01A5 Small Letter P with Hook ƥ U 01AD Small Letter T with Hook ƭ For Kpelle we would also need to add: U 0260 Small Letter G with Hook ɠ We might pick up a couple of Variants as well. Summary of Previous discussion on consistency regarding Grave and Hook Above

Dear Latin GP As discussed in the call on 17 Sep 2020. Please find the summary of the previous discussion on consistency regarding Grave and Hook Above as follow. * IP feedback before the F2F meeting * In the latest feedback from the IP, the case of I with Grave and I with Hook Above are not specifically included as they are not marked as variant code points. * However, the IP commented on the above diacritics that “In particular, the effects of transitivity need to be considered, so as to avoid unwieldy variant sets or resulting transitive variants among diacritics that are, or should be, considered distinct.” * During the F2F meeting in Jan 2020. * The Grave and Hook above was discussed for the letter o e a u y. ( the letter ‘ i ‘ was not included in the discussion set) * By using 5 out of 7 voting mechanism, o e cases were not variant and a u y cases were variant. * The GP discussed about the consistence and agreed to keep them as is. * letter “i” was not in the discussion set and the i case are not variant according to the votes. * Latin GP Call on 21 May 2020 * The decision from the F2F meeting in the Google Sheet was reviewed. The GP went through each tab (a, e, i, o, u, consonant) and confirmed. However, the GP did not discuss the I with Grave ( ì , 00EC) and I with Hook Above ( ỉ, 1EC9) case. They remained non variants. * During the review, GP discussed the consistence of a two cases i.e. Vietnamese cases; and c, n, z acute and dot above. * The item for small letter I and I with acute was raised. The GP agreed to confirm the decision from F2F meeting as they are, and this issue will be added in the agenda for the next meetings. * As the meeting note only captured that the decision was confirmed, please listen to the recording for more detail (at 00:28:10 ~ 00:33) * Latin GP Call on 4 June 2020 * The Grave and Hook above was revisited for the letter ‘o’. Mirjana changed her vote, and the GP concluded that O with Grave and O with Hook Above were variant code points. * Latin GP Call on 16 July 2020 * The Grave and Hook above for the letter ‘e’ was discussed. The GP noted that there is inconsistence but agreed to keep the current decision for this version of the proposal. Therefore e with Grave and e with Hook Above are not variant code points. Variants -- Grave and Dot Above

Dear Colleagues, I would like to circle back to something we discussed in our meeting Thursday. When looking at Section 6.3.1.3 we talked about this entry: | Latin Small Letter I with Grave | 0069 | ì | ↔ | ỉ | 1EC9 | Latin Small Letter I with Hook Above | Blocked | As Dennis quite correctly noted in the Comments, we had determined that code points 0069 and 1EC9 were not variants. But as we later determined, we had found Latin Small Letter I with Grave and Latin Small Letter I with Hook Above to be variants. That's what this entry was for -- the code point names and glyphs were correct, just the Unicode number was wrong. Here's what I find fascinating. Clearly Dennis was looking closely at the entry. But closely as he was looking, even Dennis didn't notice that the glyph was Small Letter I with Grave rather than just Small Letter I. And yet, we have ruled generally that Grave and Dot Above do not create variant pairs. Something is very wrong here. Bill

Hi Mirjana, Thanks for sharing. Here are a couple of observations. * Slide 6 (current work): what does this mean? “Consider new findings of Latin glyphs which might be added to new MSR version” * Slide 7 (plan and next steps): to the extent that appendices provide the rationale and motivation for certain design decisions which IP would find useful (and perhaps necessary), shouldn’t we want to finalize the appendices before submitting the new version to the IP? The slides has it the other way around.
