Dear All, Please see below a note from Alan Greenberg, ALAC Chair, regarding available travel slots for ICANN 60. ** The ALAC has three travel slots available for the ICANN 60 meeting in Abu Dhabi, 28 October - 02 November 2017. The travel slots will be allocated to At-Large participants who are ACTIVELY involved in some ICANN policy activity, or those with a strong history of such involvement in the past and an interest to restart. Those include gNSO or ccNSO PDPs, CCWGs, ALAC support Working Groups and the At-Large Review (with a lesser emphasis on the latter) If you are interested in being considered for one of these travel slots, please write to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org> and provide the following information: 1. Full name, Citizenship, Country of residence 2. Your affiliation or connection with At-Large (ALS, Individual Member, RALO) 3. What ICANN Policy Activities (as above) you are involved with. Dear Aziz, Thank you for the update on the strategies. As someone increasing my engagement with Afralo, it is great to have this insight on their strategies. This is great work that has been done by Daniel Nanghaka and Tijani BEN JEMAA. I do have a query? has there been some form of an online strategy being developed, not just around events but continuously? I am part of a youth initiative called Emerging Leaders in Internet governance in South Africa. During ICANN59, on the online platform, our community members were asking questions such as what is the Africa strategy? where does Africa stand in ICANN? I ccd the @AFRALO handle but I don't recall a response unless I missed it. - Continue to identify universities and academic institutions to organize fruitful discussions with students and teachers about Internet and ICANN to bring young people into ICANN through these Open Session Is there room to also add groups working on issues pertinent to ICANN but not necessarily in these institutions? I might have missed this, but I think there might be a need to engage on these platforms to enhance the aim of the outreach and bringing in younger stakeholders. We have achieved a high rise in the number of ALSes to current 53 African ALSes. Aim of the Strategy With theimportant increase in the number of ALSes, the strategy of FY18 will focus onEngagement of the end users and will aim at: - Reaching out to African end users allover Africa to enhance engagement in the policy development processes and allother ICANN activities - Promoting the ICANN multi-stakeholdermodel and its bottom-up decision making process - Continuing the effort of recruitment ofnew members (At-Large Structures and/or individual members) Strategy plan To reachthe aims of the strategy, AFRALO shall: - Participate in events across Africa to: - Organize engagement sessions to present AFRALO, At-Large and ICANN tothe event participants, explaining mission, constituencies and activities. - Make use of all breaks and social events to do the adequate outreach tobring African Internet organizations and individuals into ICANN Arena and makethem interested to be involved in the processes - Make presentations about topics under discussion in ICANN to show howthe African ICANN community participate effectively in the ICANN policydevelopment - Organize local events, in partnership with the local ALSes to enhancetheir engagement and broaden their radiance in their respective countries - Continue to identify universities and academic institutions to organizefruitful discussions with students and teachers about Internet and ICANN tobring young people into ICANN through these Open Sessions Engagement Events targeted The engagement will be done atvarious forums within the Africa Region. Dear All, Please see below a note from Alan Greenberg, ALAC Chair, regarding available travel slots for ICANN 60. ** The ALAC has three travel slots available for the ICANN 60 meeting in Abu Dhabi, 28 October - 02 November 2017. The travel slots will be allocated to At-Large participants who are ACTIVELY involved in some ICANN policy activity, or those with a strong history of such involvement in the past and an interest to restart. Those include gNSO or ccNSO PDPs, CCWGs, ALAC support Working Groups and the At-Large Review (with a lesser emphasis on the latter) If you are interested in being considered for one of these travel slots, please write to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org> and provide the following information: 1. Full name, Citizenship, Country of residence 2. Your affiliation or connection with At-Large (ALS, Individual Member, RALO) 3. What ICANN Policy Activities (as above) you are involved with. Please be specific and detail what your involvement is (teleconferences, mailing list activity, etc.) 4. Certification that support to attend this meeting is not otherwise available. Chair Thanks for the great work you have done starting off the Outreach and Engagement Strategy. I don't know how much time we have to finalise this so I have taken the liberty to take your work and start a document. I hope this is ok. See attached. The document could possibly be plugged onto an online platform like Google Docs to enable wide online collaboration. I do hope I'm not be presumptuous. I have several comments to make regarding this first/second draft. 1. I'm still very new in the AFRALO/RALO ecosystem so there's something I have found a bit strange. I don't mean to disparage anyone or put down anyone so if it comes across that I have please accept my apologies unequivocally. This is what I have found strange:- I have tried to do a google search on AFRALO and it always takes me to the ICANN At Large Page. Is this deliberate? Doesn't AFRALO or any other RALO have their own standalone website? If so why then do we not have our own website? 2. Brand Identity and Equity. AFRALO is doing important and seminal work. And most of it is voluntary work. And that's even more powerful. I would like us to challenge each other to have a strong Identity that can be used to further the objectives of AFRALO. This sort of emphasizes the first point. 3. Social Media. I know we have social media handles. What I propose is to strengthen the engagement directly focusing on the different target constituents. 4. I would also like to suggest that we look at adding within this Strategy a Communications Strategy that may address the above. Thank you all.
