Dear ALAC and At-Large Community Members, [Apologies for cross-posting - subject matter is important and time sensitive] The Cross Community Working Group (CCWG) on Accountability has published its 2nd draft report, which contains its updated proposal for enhancing ICANN’s accountability as part of the IANA Stewardship Transition process. I would like to urge you to spare some time and attention to analyze the proposal and to provide the views of the At-Large community through the public comments process, which will end on Sep12th. Your views are important because the work on accountability has implications for ICANN's governance. *To be more informed on the proposal and on the response of the ICANN Board to the proposal, I recommend that you attend the following calls this week:* (1) CCWG meeting with advisors today (31 August) at 13:00 UTC. (2) CCWG briefing to the ICANN Board today (31 August) at 22:00 UTC. (3) CCWG-Board Dialogue on 2 September at 22:00 UTC (note that this is expected to be a 3 hour discussion). Lance: I totally understand this decision and applaud your stand for principle. I am now convinced the electoral process was hijacked. And we are asked to accept it was a result of ignorance of the rules. The intent is for us only to pity the result achieved under colour of ignorance. That is not acceptable to The University of the West Indies and on this record, that objective is summarily rejected. When the general assembly - the election - is called, I shall, on a point of order, offer a motion of no confidence in the LACRALO leadership with all of the supporting details. Alberto: I hear what you say but with respect, you have the duty of care to ensure this process is above reproach. You may not undermine the appearance of any candidate by making these decisions seemingly as you go. The nomination period ends 23:59 UTC August 28, 2015. It takes at the most 30 seconds for a nomination to be entered. If you act to deny ALL potential candidates the space to be heard with their peers, you have tainted the process. In this circumstance, one can only interpret the action as deliberate, regardless of whether it was initiated in ignorance or by sloth. This is the latest in a series of missteps and usurpations, even incapacities, that have been on display in this period and for which the LACRALO leadership is accountable.
