DOODLE / Community Call on IPv6

Dear All, Following the recent news on IPv6, the At-Large Staff has been asked to organize a community briefing call on the issue. Leo Vegoda, Operational Excellence Officer IANA at ICANN, will talk about the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 and touch on several issues, including: Historical/Technical Aspects * Brief history of IPv4/IPv6 * Difference between IPv6 and IPv4 * Current status of the transition * Operational aspects/Technical challenges Policy Aspects * ICANN’s Role in the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 * Current policy situation and future challenges * How are Internet users affected by the transition? * Practical steps for At-Large to help with the implementation of IPv6 The teleconference will be moderated by the ALAC Chair, Olivier Crépin-Leblond and take about 45 60 minutes. Following the presentation, the participants will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion on IPv6 with Leo and Olivier. Dear Jean-Jacques, I entirely agree with your thoughts and arguments on the role of RALOs and the ALAC and I think, whenever/wherever the interests of Internet users are affected or potentially at stake, we should verify possible impacts on a regional level - what in the given ACTA case is rather clear to me - and raise our voice. I am conscious that it is an ambitious goal but we need to work and progress into this direction. Therefore, I would support your ideas, particularly and at least to "make a brief statement supporting the ISOC position overall ...". Dear all, as some of you may have realised already, I am deeply concerned about the on-going process of the ACTA negotiations (ACTA stands for the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement). In this context, I got to know the ISOC statement “Calling for an open and international dialogue …”. In the statement, ISOC refers to / “…wishes to take this opportunity to provide our preliminary perspective on those parts of the proposed agreement which pertain to the Internet, Internet governance, Internet technologies, Internet intermediaries and/or Internet users.” What is our concern as well. Dear All, Please see a note on upcoming At-Large staff transitions sent on behalf of David Olive, Vice President, Policy Development Support. ** Dear At-Large community, I would like to inform you of some At-Large staff transitions that will begin following the 40th ICANN Meeting in Silicon Valley in San Francisco. It is with mixed emotions that I announce the departure of Matthias Langenegger, Manager, At-Large Regional Affairs, effective 21 March 2011. Matthias, who first joined ICANN in February 2008 as the At-Large Coordination Officer, has been an exceptional member of the Policy Team and provided outstanding support to the At-Large community, due in part, to his unique combination of technical and language skills. The position of Manager, At-Large Regional Affairs has been posted on the ICANN website (see: At-Large Regional Affairs Officer (OHREGAFFRSOFFCR)<http://hostedjobs.openhire.com/epostings/submit.cfm?fuseaction=app.jobinfo&…>). However, in the interim period, we have asked Seth Greene, currently the At-Large Improvements Project Manager, to take on some of responsibilities of this position, with assistance from Gisella Gruber and Marilyn Vernon. This interim arrangement has been designed in order to ensure continuity in At-Large staff support. Along with the At-Large staff, I would like to warmly thank Matthias for his considerable contribution to ICANN and the At-Large community and wish him all the best in his new endeavors. Call for Volunteers from EURALO for Finance and Budget Subcommittee

Dear All, The ALAC is looking for a non-ALAC representative from AFRALO to join the ALAC Finance and Budget Subcommittee. The proposal to add non-ALAC representatives to the Finance and Budget Subcommittee came from Improvements Work Team C (ALAC/At-Large¹s participation in ICANN and ALS participation in At-Large) and was endorsed by the ALAC during their meeting of 25 January.
