Dear Community Members: In order to help everyone understand the Issues Report on Domain Tasting, the place that an Issues Report has in the policy development framework of ICANN, and to allow you, the community members, to discuss and ask questions about the issues the report covers, two teleconferences are being arranged where Maria Farrell of the Policy Unit will be on hand to brief you and answer your questions. The first call is designed to be 'timezone friendly' for North and South American participants; the other for the rest of the world. If you cannot participate due to other obligations, don't worry, both teleconferences will be recorded and those recordings available for you to listen to at your convenience. Dear At-Large colleagues: I have the pleasure to provide you with the Issues Report on Domain Tasting, requested by the At-Large Advisory Committee. We are having the text translated into Spanish and French. Once these versions are ready I will provide links where they can be retrieved. Maria Farrell of the Policy Unit has kindly offered to brief the community on the report and answer questions about it and what comes next. We will setup two dial-in teleconferences for the briefing, one which is for North and South America and one for Europe, Africa, and Asia. I think it is up to the community. From what I know of these two events, it would seem to me that these are two important and very different aspects to consider and it is worthwhile to consider them separately because each set of issues will then get more time, and therefore be explored more thoroughly, than if they shared a single timeslot. Of course, nothing would stop the two constituencies jointly convening one or the other of these events, which would provide the 'one voice' benefits you mention. I had a long and useful exchange of emails with Thomas. We did not resolve our divergencies, we sort of "agreed that we disagree", but on one point I have to admit he was right. Thomas pointed out that in one of our messages I have made a false statement, or at least a misleading one. Digging in my folders, I have found the message and the sentence, which is "Incidentally, can we have a list of who can speak, as we have for the time being already excluded Nick, as staff, and yours truly, as Board member, but ...". I recognize that this would imply that somebody has attempted to shut me up. This has never happened, as the criticism to what I have said, by Thomas and everybody else, has always remained within the limit of the debate among people who have strong opinions and are passionate about the issues. Per Clause 9.4 of the Bylaws of the EURALO, it is for the board members to elect the Chair and Vice-Chair, so I'm afraid that this proposal is not in order. all, now that we have a board we should clarify who becomes the chair. looking at the ranking of the board members jeanette and wolf are predestinated to take the responsibility of the euralo chair. as jeanette already indicated that she would be willing to do some work but not take the full responsibility as chair, i think it would be great if wolf would be willing to serve as chair. if wolf accepts and there are no objections until friday - we actually would have finished our procedural issues ;-) best annette

First, congratulations to the whole people around EURALO, not only those who are elected, but participated, and maybe frustrated to some extent, but as someone wrote, you now have the outcome. I was elected as an ALAC from AP RALO in March before Lisbon meeting, from "interim" to more "legitimate" member, and now that we lost Vittorio, Wendy and kind of myself are only two "incumbents" squatting on ALAC. I am quite aware of this and looking for good rationale and also good exit. My rationale has been the quick and many turnovers, so many ALAC members have changed, giving some sort of instability, which is not all bad, but we at APRALO thought maintaining some stability be better. I am bit concerned that we may lose some "corporate memory" and that is another reason for me to stay. Given the ALAC review is coming, I think however radical we may try to change ALAC, and I am one of them to hope that to happen, I still like to share some lessons from the past, in order not to reinvent the wheels. Well, in any case, Thanks Vittorio for your many years of service especially as the first Chair, and for your hard work.
