Yesterday a U.S. House committee approved HR 1981, a broad new Internet snooping bill. They want to force Internet service providers to keep track of and retain their customers' information -- including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses. The American Civil Liberties Union, the American Library Association, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Demand Progress, and 25 other civil liberties and privacy groups have expressed our opposition to this legislation. WG: At Large delegates to the 2012 Nominating Committee

Dear all, we received this call for nominations for next regional NomCom candidates from Adam Peake, the NomCom Chair. And before I started a public consultation on this list, I asked Yrjö Länsipuro our incumbent representative whether he is interested and willing to serve for a second NomCom term. Yrjö did an excellent job at the NomCom last year – being aware that this is a very important, demanding and time-consuming function – and RALOs are supposed to consider their very best candidates for this. Yrjö replied to me that he would be glad and honoured to serve a second term on the NomCom as the EURALO representative what is good news to me, and I would like to thank him most sincerely for all his dedication and commitment. If no objections are raised or other candidates nominated on this list during the next ten days (deadline 23 July at midnight), Yrjö’s name will be submitted (together with potentially new nominees?) for EURALO to the ALAC Chair and the NomCom Chair afterwards.
