CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2021 ALAC, RALO AND ALAC DELEGATES TO THE NOMCOM

**VERSION FRANÇAISE À LA SUITE DE LA VERSION ANGLAISE ** ** Dear All, On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to announce that the 2021 call for nominations is now open for positions to be filled as ALAC Members, RALO Leaders and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom. Positions Open: Please refer to the 2021 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Workspace <https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2021+ALAC+and+RALO+Elections%2C…> for a comprehensive list of all available positions and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection. Terms: * ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2023 AGM. * RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2021 AGM. * ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2021 AGM and ending at the close of the 2022 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resource…>. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The appointment if NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC.The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message. Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: * 10 May 2021 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.* (Except for NARALO that requires a call for nominations 30 days before the start of the elections.) * 10 May – 21 May 2021 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). * 28 May 2021 - Deadline for nomination acceptances * 31 May 2021 - 4 June 2021 - Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. * 7 June - 11 June 2021 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). * 2021 AGM [ICANN72] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2021 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 28 October 2021. Process for Nominations: All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>. All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__community.icann.org_di…>). Criteria for NomCom Delegates: The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria. * Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO). * Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring). * Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking). * Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media. * Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). May involve travel to up to 4 meetings. * Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Dear All, The monthly roundtable 7 (by EURALO): “DNS Abuse and intermediary liability of non-hosting providers” is scheduled on Tuesday 21 September at 18:00 UTC for 90 minutes. The EURALO Roundtable will focus on recent ICANN responses to the DSA package and welcome input from leading European academics, who had reported on Internet governance, the DNA package and intermediary liability to the European Comission. Guest Speakers: * Tobias Mahler, University of Oslo, Tobias Mahler is a law professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo, where he is deputy director of the Norwegian Research Center for Computers and Law (NRCCL). He specializes in information and communications technology law and is the legal research leader of the VIROS project (Vulnerability in the Robot Society). His research is highly interdisciplinary, primarily combining legal research with computer science. His research interests cover a broad range of legal issues arising in the context of (i) robots, particularly with artificial intelligence capabilities, (ii) Internet governance (especially the domain name system), as well as (iii) cybersecurity and privacy. This focus on legal issues is complemented with research on legal technology to facilitate novel approaches such as legal risk management and visual representations of legal reasoning. He holds a PhD from the University of Oslo, an LLM degree in legal informatics from the University of Hannover, and a German law degree (first state exam). He has practised law in Norway as a corporate lawyer in the automotive industry, primarily working with international commercial contracts. Prof. Mahler is the Director of the Master of Laws Programme in Information and Communication Technology Law at the University of Oslo. He teaches robot regulation, cybersecurity regulation, legal technology and artificial intelligence. Mahler has been a visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and Criminal Law in Freiburg, Germany, and the Stanford Centre for Internet and Society. He has practised law in Norway as a corporate lawyer in the automotive industry, primarily working with international commercial contracts. Prof. Mahler is the Director of the Master of Laws Programme in Information and Communication Technology Law at the University of Oslo. He teaches robot regulation, cybersecurity regulation, legal technology and artificial intelligence. Mahler has been a visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and Criminal Law in Freiburg, Germany, and the Stanford Centre for Internet and Society.
