Dear All, This is to let you know that a technical glitch in BigPulse caused suppression to the vote from one ALS, so it was not reflected in the final vote result. The issue has been resolved now, and 26/36 (instead of 25/36 as previously announced) ALSes have voted. León Felipe Sánchez Ambía Selected by the At-Large Community as the Next ICANN Board Director

On behalf of Tijani Ben Jemaa, Chair of the Board Member Selection Process Committee (BMSPC), we are announcing the final election result of ICANN Board Director (Seat #15) selected by the At-Large Community. After six months of efforts, the At-Large Community has successfully concluded its ICANN Board Director selection process on 27 February 2017. León Felipe Sánchez Ambía has been selected by At-Large as the successor of Rinalia Abdul Rahm and will begin his 3 year term as an ICANN Board Director at the end of ICANN60 (3 November 2017). The selection process began in September 2016, with the formation of two committees<https://community.icann.org/x/Vxi4Aw> tasked with managing the timeline, calling for and evaluating the candidates, and organizing the final election. Among the six individuals who submitted Expressions of Interest for the position, Alan Greenberg and León Felipe Sánchez Ambía were chosen as the finalists<https://community.icann.org/x/N6bDAw>. [cid:image001.png@01D290DC.AD319B80] León Felipe Sánchez Ambía is an intellectual property attorney graduated from the the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He also has completed postgraduate studies on intellectual property at the UNAM and on Internet Law at Harvard Law School. Since 2006 he has been partner at Fulton & Fulton, a law firm specialized in intellectual property and IT law based in Mexico City, and is head of the Intellectual Property division. In 2008 he was admitted as professor on Intellectual Property at the UNAM Law School. He is co-lead for the Mexican chapter of Creative Commons and advisor to different Government bodies that include the Digital Strategy Coordination Office of the Mexican Presidency, the Special Commission on Digital Agenda and IT of the Mexican House of Representatives and the Science and Technology Commission of the Mexican Senate. He drafted the Internet Users Rights Protection Act for Mexico and has been very active on issues like Anti-Counterfeit Trade Agreement (ACTA), Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA), Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) and other local initiatives of the same kind, always advocating to defend users’ and creators’ rights in order to achieve a balance between regulation and freedom. He currently serves as the ALAC Vice-Chair in ICANN and Co-Chair of the CCWG on Accountability where he has been deeply involved with the IANA transition. In particular, ICANN CEO Goran Marby has been invited to take part in a high level panel on Thursday 30 March. As one of the leading conferences on Internet issues, it is a good place for the ICANN community to engage with a range of civil society stakeholders and also more widely, with many business and government stakeholders in attendance. Details are here: https://www.rightscon.org/. There is a possibility of having a booth at the event. We think this is potentially a good opportunity to raise awareness of ICANN and encourage participation for the range of potentially interested stakeholders who will be attending RightsCon. Before we proceed with reserving a booth (which we need to do in the very next few days), we felt it important to see if there would be interest from our constituencies in this booth; we would like to make sure that the booth can serve to display the brochures and other information from across ICANN and its constituencies, and preferably also that community members are involved directly in ‘manning’ the booth, together with ICANN staff, so that community members themselves can engage directly with interested conference delegates. These questions can be sent from now till Friday, 10 February 2017 23:59 UTC. After the teleconference: After viewing Candidates' responses to the questions posted before the teleconference and interacting with them during the teleconference, you may ask follow-up questions afterward. The follow up questions must be sent no later than Thursday, 16 February 2017 23:59 UTC.
