ICANN announced the creation of the Global Indigenous Ambassador Program in June 2017. The program establishes two Indigenous Ambassadors, which will be selected from underrepresented indigenous communities, as well as one mentor. Through the inclusion of a broader and more diverse base of knowledgeable constituents, ICANN will be better equipped to support the next generation of the global Internet community. ICANN is now accepting applications for anyone interested in serving as a mentor for the two Global Indigenous Ambassadors during ICANN61. Mentors must be familiar with ICANN and At-Large, and have been active in one of the constituencies. EURALO Brainstorming at IGF 2017 and Seasons Greetings

Dear all, as you know, this past week the Internet Governance Forum took place in Geneva. EURALO was out there in force. I'll come back to this in a future email. In the meantime, sights and sounds about or activity in Geneva can be found on: https://community.icann.org/x/6RxyB But the focus of this email is that I wanted to share with you the details of an ad-hoc brainstorming session which many of us had on the evening of the joint Internet Society / ICANN reception (Tuesday evening). This was suggested by our new EURALO Board members who were present in Geneva, Annette Mühlberg, Erich Schweighofer and Roberto Gaetano. Roughly 10-15 of us assembled in a circle and each of us spoke their mind about what project EURALO should do in 2018. The result, based on my notes, is on: http://goo.gl/k5WLkC To those who were there, please check if I have captured your points well and make comments. To everyone else, please check on these proposed projects, expand them, volunteer. We'll look at this again in the New Year. The problem about the poll is that as of now it is still unclear how the vote will be run. Each ALS representative will have up to 5 votes, that must be given to 5 different candidates. What is unclear is whether votes have to be given to people of different nationality/residence or not. I hope that we will have a final decision at tonight’s EURALO teleconference. After the withdrawal of Stéphane we have still 2 candidates registered as French and 2 candidates registered as Austria. The other 3 candidates are from different countries and will therefore be elected anyway (if they get at least one vote). I plan to cast a vote for the remaining candidates that were nominated by our Association - except for myself, of course - for the rest of the lot I will play it by ear, unless there is a strong voice from the members. One issue for clarification. You might have noticed that Clément Genty is running for office and is a member of our Association. I have not nominated him for the simple reason that I believe that the formal nomination for an EURALO position by our association should be done for members who have been active in the association. However, this does not mean that voters that are unhappy with the known candidates would not decide that they prefer the unknown. As stated when I ran, I did so because there was a dearth of candidates at the time. Since then, several candidates have come forward and there are more than enough from France. As I also stated I would support getting people who have not been so heavily involved before. I would therefore like to support my fellow Frenchman Clément Genty. Clément comes to us from the NextGen program and is in my mind exactly the type of person that we should be pushing to try and get more involved in these leadership positions as a relative newcomer to the ICANN process. Besides the usual Policy discussion which will last around 20 minutes, we have two main discussions to have: Item 4 - the EURALO Board Appointments In this section, participants will have the ability to decide on whether the ballots for EURALO Board members should be limited to a candidate from each country, or unlimited, with the country distribution being done at vote count. So far, I have only read responses that the ballots should be unlimited. The second part of this section provides you with the ability to hear from the candidates themselves. Time is of the essence, thus I do not think we have the ability to have a full question/answer session, but it would be good to hear from each of the candidates, if they are able to attend the call, on what their plans are for the EURALO Board to function better.
