PARA PUBLICACIÓN INMEDIATA 23 de agosto de 2010 Se buscan candidatos de la comunidad de usuarios de Internet para ser miembros de la Junta Directiva El grupo de ICANN que representa a usuarios individuales de Internet llama a candidatos que estén interesados en ayudar en el desarrollo de políticas mientras que se desempeñen como miembros de la Junta Directiva de la organización. La comunidad de alcance de ICANN (que representa a usuarios individuales de Internet) está realizando una búsqueda global para ocupar el cargo de miembro de la Junta reservado para un usuario de Internet que no represente a ningún gobierno en particular, empresa o entidad sin fines de lucro. “Se trata de darle voz al usuario promedio de Internet de todos los días en la organización global sin fines de lucro encargada de coordinar el sistema de direccionamiento de Internet,” dijo Cheryl Langdon-Orr, el presidente del comité asesor de alcance (ALAC). “ICANN quiere escuchar a todos los segmentos de la comunidad de Internet, incluyendo a los individuos que generalmente sienten que no tienen voz en la creación de políticas.” ALAC está buscando a alguien con una amplia perspectiva internacional y antecedentes en los intereses de los usuarios de Internet, políticas de usuarios y/o sociedades civiles en todo el mundo. Aug. 2010 Bewerber aus der Community der Internetbenutzer für einen Platz im Vorstand gesucht Die ICANN-Gruppe, die individuelle Internetbenutzer vertritt, fordert alle, die an der Entwicklung von Verfahrensweisen interessiert sind, auf sich zu bewerben und im Vorstand der Organisation tätig zu sein. Die ICANN At-Large-Community (die individuelle Internetbenutzer vertritt) führt derzeit weltweit eine Suche nach einem geeigneten Internetbenutzer durch, der einen reservierten Platz im Vorstand einnehmen soll. Dieser Internetbenutzer darf weder eine bestimmte Regierung, noch ein Unternehmen oder eine gemeinnützige Einrichtung vertreten. "Hier geht es darum, dem durchschnittlichen, normalen Internetbenutzer in einer globalen gemeinnützigen Einrichtung, der mit der Koordination des Internet-Adressierungssystem befasst ist, ein Mitspracherecht zu geben", sagt Cheryl Langdon-Orr, die Vorsitzende des At-Large-Committees (ALAC). "ICANN möchte Meinungen aus allen Bereichen der Internet-Community hören, auch von denjenigen, die oft das Gefühl haben, dass sie bei der Entwicklung der Verfahrensweisen nicht einbezogen werden". ALAC sucht nach jemand mit einer umfassenden internationalen Perspektive und Erfahrungen mit den Interessen von Internetbenutzern, mit dem Thema Verbraucherpolitik und/oder der weltweiten Zivilgesellschaft. Das At-Large-Vorstandsmitglied hätte ein Mitspracherecht bei den zahlreichen ICANN-Themen, die dabei helfen, die Organisation zu definieren, wie beispielsweise:  Die Ausweitung von generischen Top-Level-Domains (gTLDs) – dem Anteil eines Internetadressnamens, der am Ende eines Adressnamens angezeigt wird (d.h. .com, .org, .asia usw.). ICANN überlegt, wie die derzeit aus 21 Domains bestehende Liste am besten erweitert werden könnte, um eine Vielzahl von Namen und Wörtern aufzunehmen.  Beratung bei der Implementierung der Domains mit Sonderzeichen (Internationalized Domain Names oder IDNs) zur Einführung von Internetadressnamen, die nicht auf mit dem lateinischen Alphabet gebildeten Sprachen basieren, und bei denen beispielsweise chinesische, koreanische oder arabische Schriftzeichen im letzten Teil eines Adressnamens verwendet werden.  Der Übergang von IPv4 zu IPv6. Diese Änderung bei den Internetprotokollen wird die verfügbare Anzahl globaler Internetadressen deutlich erweitern, da die derzeitigen IPv4-Adressen rasch immer weniger werden. "Das Internet wird durch seine einmalige Fähigkeit definiert, jedermann eine Stimme zu verleihen", sagt Langdon-Orr. "Dies ist eine Möglichkeit, das Konzept der Einbeziehung in die oberste Ebene von ICANN zu erweitern." Поиск кандидатов от сообщества пользователей Интернета на место в Правлении Группа ICANN, представляющая интересы индивидуальных пользователей Интернета, объявляет о приеме заявлений от лиц, заинтересованных в оказании помощи при разработке политики в период своей работы в составе Правления организации. Расширенное сообщество ICANN (представляющее интересы индивидуальных пользователей Интернета) осуществляет глобальный поиск с целью заполнения места в Правлении, зарезервированного для пользователя Интернета, который не является представителем конкретного правительства, корпорации или некоммерческой организации. «Основная цель заключается в предоставлении права голоса среднему регулярному пользователю Интернета в глобальной некоммерческой организации, отвечающей за координацию работы системы адресации Интернета», — сказала Шерил Лэнгдон-Орр, председатель Расширенного консультативного комитета (РКК). «ICANN стремится услышать мнения из всех сегментов интернет-сообщества, включая индивидуальных пользователей, которые часто считают, что у них нет права голоса при формировании политики». IGF Vilnius, September 2010: will you be there?

Hello everybody, At today's EURALO monthly conference call, a suggestion was made for a Virtual EURALO General Assembly (Virtual EURALO GA). The suggestion was to book a small meeting room during the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 14-17 September 2010 and to conduct a face to face meeting with all those present, whilst making provisions for remote participation by ALSes which were not going to be present at the IGF. The IGF taking place in Europe is likely to bring quite a few members from ALSes together since we are hoping for a strong representation of civil society groups and organisations. Whilst unfortunately no funding will be possible from ICANN, we are appealing to anyone who's already going to be in Vilnius to join us. Dear All, The attached press release on the At-Large Board Seat is sent to you on behalf of Cheryl Langdon-Orr, Chair of the Board Candidate Evaluation Committee. Applicants Sought from Internet User Community for Seat on Board of Directors The ICANN group representing individual Internet users is calling for applications from those who may be interested in helping to develop policy while serving on the organization’s Board of Directors. ICANN’s At-Large community (representing individual Internet users) is undertaking a global search to fill a Board seat reserved for an Internet user who does not represent a particular government, corporate or non-profit entity. “This is all about providing a voice for the average everyday Internet user in the global non-profit organization charged with coordinating the Internet addressing system,” said Cheryl Langdon-Orr, the Chair of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC). “ICANN wants to hear from all segments of the Internet community, including the individuals who often simply feel they don’t have a voice in policy formation.” ALAC is looking for someone with a broad international perspective and a background in Internet users’ interests, consumer policy and/or civil society worldwide. The At-Large Board member would have a voice in the numerous ICANN issues which help define the organization, such as: • The expansion of generic top-level domains (gTLDs) – that portion of a web address name at the end of an address name (i.e., .com, .org, .asia, etc.). ICANN is considering how best to expand the current list of 21 to include a vast variety of names and words. • Guidance on the implementation of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), which allows for the introduction of Internet address names formed from non-Latin based languages, where scripts such as Chinese, Korean or Arabic will be used in the last portion of an address name. • The transition from IPv4 to IPv6. This change in Internet Protocols will vastly expand the available number of global Internet addresses, since the current IPv4 addresses are quickly diminishing. “The Internet is defined by its unique ability to give everyone a voice,” said Langdon-Orr. “This is an opportunity to extend that concept of inclusion to ICANN’s top level.” Interested parties can obtain more information by writing ICANN’s Board Candidate Evaluation Committee at BCEC-Request(a)icann.org. Questions regarding nomination and board positions

Dear all, dear staff, thanks for the ICANN usb stick with documents. It was very interesting to look through them. I'd like to take this opportunity as a newbie to ask some questions to which I didn't find answers yet in the ongoing discussions on the mailinglist as well as in the documents I got. To introduce our ALS and myself, I am contact person for the newly recognized ALS Wikimedia CH, one of the national chapters of the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organisation behind the Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikinews, Wikibooks, Wiktionary etc. Myself is a studied IT engineer with an interest in free and open source software and corresponding social movements. As I am running a serverhosting business since eleven years I had to deal with ICANN's topics before, while I was never involved in ICANN before we decided to become an ALS with Wikimedia CH. Within Wikimedia I am working with Wikimedia Deutschland (as I am german) and am a founding member of Wikimedia CH (as I live on the boarder to Switzerland). Beside technical interest (hosting Wikimedia platforms for chapters in Switzerland, Austria and Israel) my main interest is the multicultural aspect of Wikimedia and running global projects be it organising conferences, spreading Wikimedia content in the global south or developing the Wikimedia organisation. As a newbie to ICANN I am still interested and curious in the mechanics, roles and goals of the different ALSes and holder of the various ICANN positions. So I am trying to follow the ongoing discussions, which is not very easy. These questions refer to both upcoming elections in the EURALO and ICANN board. * what are criteria to be nominated or elected into one of these board positions? Can someone point me to a document where they are described? * what kind of persons are supposed to be nominated / elected into these board positions? Are you looking for experienced ICANN / ALAC members or persons rooted in the community, defending interests of the users, like a counterweight to the commercial background of other board members? * how is a board mandate handled? Is this a political mandate which requires the feedback to and from the community or is it a personal position where board members represent themselves and are only accountable to their own conviction? * how are the selected candidates validated? How are nomination - self-nominations and such by other members - handled? Is there any difference, is there any consideration of RALO recommendations? What I wonder is how I as a newbie can choose a trustworthy candidate who represents my ALS and our community to which we feel accountable to. Maybe the answers to the questions above will shed more light on this process.
