Regional Advice Needed / 294 BIKLAB

Dear Colleagues, in early June we received an application for ALS from an organisation called BIKLAB, based in Guadeloupe. The application had initially gone to LACRALO by error and this was finally forwarded to EURALO - as Guadeloupe is French Overseas Region in the Caribbean. The application form contains personal details and confidential information that cannot be shared on a public mailing list, but if you are interested in looking at it, please email me and I'll forward it to you. In the meantime, I have asked EURALO leadership, that is, EURALO Board and appointees, directly by email, whether they have any objections to ratification of this organisation as an ALS. After some discussion regarding funding of this organisation (they are self-funding but had indicated otherwise by error), there were no objections to ratification of this organisation. In addition to this, since this organisation is located physically in the LACRALO region, we have struck a deal with LACRALO whereas members of BIKLAB could also participate in LACRALO activities as Observers. BIKLAB would retain its voting right in EUROPE only. So -- to summarise, if you'd like to have a look at the application, email me directly and I'll forward it to you by email. Otherwise, I'll give a last chance to discuss this during our EURALO monthly call tomorrow and then if there are no objections, I'll proceed with letting At-Large Staff know that the recommendation from EURALO to the ALAC is to ratify BIKLAB as an ALS. Travel arrangements to Marrakech by the Selection Committee held up the final decisions on the selected travellers. Therefore, a 6.30am meeting was held on their first day in Marrakech to ensure that the final list was compiled. I must thank RALO Chairs for the superb group of people they offered to this ATLAS process as members of the Selection Committee. They did an amazing job for which I am extremely grateful. ☺ Congratulations to the 60 successful travellers. Be prepared for a little more work in the lead up to Montreal. It will be worth while to be totally engaged in the preparation so that you get full value out of the training you will experience. ICANN NomCom June Update The ICANN NomCom delegates and leadership team met at ICANN 65 in Marrakesh, Morocco to interview, further evaluate and select candidates from the 2nd intercessional short-list. This is a continuation of the candidate selection phase in the NomCom process. Selections for the most qualified candidates was completed for these 10 open seats: 3 seats for the ICANN board, 1 seat for the PTI board, 3 seats for each of these ALAC regions: Africa, LAC and Asia, 1 seat for ccNSO and 2 seats for the GNSO. New selectees will officially assume their roles in Montreal at ICANN 66 Annual General Meeting (AGM) but announcements should come out in late August or early September.
