Dear Euralo Members, I assume that not all of you followed the ICANN75 ReadOut by EURALO yesterday. It was, as always (thanks a lot to ICANN and Sebastien Bachollet) a friendly, constructive, useful readout. But there was an incident: in the comments in the chat (publicly) I received abuse from one of our members. Yesterday I received questions and calls from some (many) of you and ICANN community members. That is why I am using this opportunity to write to you now not just as a member of the At-Large, but as a Secretary of EURALO with the aim to abstract from personalities and look at the (not the first one) incidents that happening inside of EURALO and possible consequences. I would like to share my thoughts and put some rhetorical questions: 1. Our communication with the outside world is our face, inner state, beauty or ugliness of our soul, our level of professionalism. The ability to maintain political correctness and avoid becoming personal and abusing is a skill and talent that we all can aspire to. At least to try. 2. The mission, goals and objectives of the At-Large community and operational rules provide the information about some kind of obligations. Unfortunately, work is not a goal for everyone here. Some are trying to earn PR and political points for themselves on the wave of acute topics and through personal attacks and abuse. These actions haven`t common goals with the working needs and our tasks. Time to time it has been happening since about 2013. But the experienced EURALO members and the reports of the Ombudsman will say more exactly, I may be mistaken. Names of participants are almost the same. 3. We all should follow the ICANN rules of behavior. But for someone these rules do mean nothing. Why? Are we not all equal? How long can someone be a source of constant conflict? 4. ICANN and At-Large spend significant resources (money, time, efforts) on the Mobilization, on Outreach and Engagement activities, the opportunity to establish local connections in the regions, attract more interested participants (ALSs and individuals), highlight the friendly atmosphere, neutrality and focus on the ICANN issues. The precedents of yesterday (and similar with the same participants) negates our efforts. I received a lot of questions from people yesterday – what is again going on and why is this acceptable? These are people who look at At-large, EURALO and at the opportunity to join. I hope that we have a future in this direction, but two phrases in chat can destroy the bridges we try to build. 5. We are here with the aim to be useful. What is behind the people who spread intrigues and scandals - only intrigues and scandals or real efficiency for At-Large? 6. Again: Nationalism, extremism are unacceptable things.The history of these personal attacks on me has a reason - I am Russian. I live in Russia. These thoughts above relate not such cases only, more - the present and future of our community (EURALO and At-Large), our ability and desire to communicate, work, grow and develop together, to accept new active participants of the ICANN PDP, to meet Youth here. We should not scare people, sow the conflicts, crumble ourselves into molecules, subgroups and parties, can`t indulging aggressive people to play their games using our public events, involving the names of At-Large members, ICANN staff in personal fights and ruining the reputation of EURALO. 12th RIGF

Dear all, the Russian IGF is going to take place in about a month - see https://rigf.ru/en/. Initially, it should have taken place in spring, but it has been postponed for obvious reasons. I am sure that there will be a strong discussion about participating or not, I can see arguments for and against. Please note that the planned date is after ICANN75, so I am sure that there will be some discussion there, but maybe we can get already the ball rolling and hear about the different opinions. As a disclosure, I have attended many of the previous editions, a couple of times even in person, because I am particularly interested in what happens in Eastern Europe, and I am planning to attend this one - obviously only remotely. IMHO, it is important to hear, even more in these “interesting” times, how will the debate unfold at the RIGF. I must say that in past editions there have been some critical voices speaking up in the sessions - whether this is at all possible in the changed scenario, is all to be seen. Cheers, Roberto

ALAC Chair announcement

Dear All, Following up on the Call for Nominations for the ALAC Chair on 27 June 2022, the extended deadline of 15 July 2022 has now passed. Jonathan Zuck was only candidate nominated and he accepted the nomination on 18 July 2022. Therefore, in accordance with the ALAC RoP 16.3*, as the only candidate, Jonathan has been declared the winner by acclamation. *16.3 If, following the close of the acceptance period or after all nominations have been accepted, there is only one candidate for a given position, or if as the process continues one or more candidates withdraw leaving only one remaining candidate, the sole candidate will be declared the winner by acclamation without the need for a decision of the ALAC. His term will begin at the close of the 2022 ICANN AGM and will end at the 2023 AGM. The term is extendable for one additional year if Jonathan is an ALAC Member and is willing to continue to serve. Dear all I would like to draw your attention to the message below. Earlier today I have received it in my capacity of NextGen Mentor, and I assume that the NextGen Mentees have received the same. For the NextGen Mentees this is likely to be one of the first contacts with ICANN.org<http://ICANN.org>, so they will be shaping their opinion on the organization on this. The message arrived a few hours ago, but I am reading it only now, at the end of the business day, when I am looking at tasks that I am doing a volunteer - I imagine that for a few Mentees this would be the same. I am asked to complete my registration by tomorrow. The registration process includes several actions, that I do not repeat here because you can read them below, highlighted in red - with apologies to the folks that have emails in plain text only. I assume that people are expected to read docs like standards of behaviour, anti-harassment policy, etc. before signing them - and also reflect on what that means for them. Remember what happened at ICANN74 with the waiver - I, for one, will read the (hopefully updated) waiver before signing, and this will take time. But this needs to be done in 24h. On the other hand, I can expect an approval only after 2-3 business days - being today a Thursday, this means 4-5 calendar days. Being committed to the ICANN standards of behaviour, I will not add any comments to this note.
