Agree with you, Nick. Agree with Rudi that if too much time has been spent, it's time for action. Don't agree with Jeannette. If we are to wait for everyone to state their opinion, then we are facing a situation like the elections in Greece - where by law everyone HAS to cast their vote. Yes, but we are not a state, there are no laws and punishments for not following them. If someone wants to say something, please, do so, but don't stop the train from moving just because you think there should be a stop here. Or because you've missed your station, and you pull the emergency break. As for poisoning the atmosphere - if one is afraid of bears, they don't go to the forest, as we say in Bulgaria. Jeannette: It shouldn't be too difficult, if anyone is unable to attend, for them to state their preference on the few topics at hand. For example, nothing is preventing anyone from saying what number of directors they believe to be optimal. Those on the call could also suggest, for example, that one of the items to be voted on in the vote to be held is the number of total board seats. So, using that example, one could have a ballot with: 1) A selection showing numbers between 5 and 9 (for example). The number with the largest number of supporters would be the number of total board seats. 2) A selection for two preferences for the ALAC seats 3) A ranking for each of the candidates, with the top x vote getters ('x' being the number chosen by the ballot in (1), being those chosen for the available board seats. This process has gone considerably over the timeframe agreed in Lisbon. I would ask everyone to show flexibility and understand something very important: The ALAC members need to be chosen with AT LEAST one month to go - and, really, six weeks - before the Lisbon meeting - for airline tickets to be purchased in good time to avoid unnecessary expense. We do not have extra budget funds this year to spend because a decision on selecting two candidates from a field of three candidates took a great amount of time - we've suffered a budget reduction. The other reason that the choice needs to be made - sooner, not later - is so that those chosen can have time to arrange their affairs to attend the Puerto Rico meeting. Others may say what they will - it appears to me that the discussions have reached a point where there are no other candidates, yet, we have too many candidates for the board to be of any reasonable size in comparison to the total size of the ALS community. I hope everyone will not invest too much time and energy in how many board seats there are - the community is quite small enough to actually discuss most important questions directly. I draw everyone's attention to the fact that no other region has more than two officers. EURALO is going to have at least five. So, the question of how many seats needs an answer. Reasonable timeframes for holding the vote also need to be decided. Dear all, there is a lot of tension coming in the debate the last days which is not leading anywhere. I really would like to support the positive approach of Wolfgang. We agreed to work in consensus and that at least means that in choosing our candidates we should find proportional representation in line with the opinions expressed on our list. Consensus oriented work certainly does not mean to use a tel conf with only a small group of people involved for decision making but it can be good for developing smart proposals for further procedure which will be presented to all of us online. Concerning the sudden questioning of deadlines for nominations - I really do not understand what this is all about. The two mails Wolf quoted were the last two mails on deadlines of nominations not objected by anyone on the list. So one good step forward we made together in consensus ;-) So to be absolutely clear and avoid further confusion, I propose that we now clarify the definition of "a few days" after the 29th for board nominations and set a strict end to the 4th of may. Wolf: As previously stated, the time and date chosen was the time acceptable to most people. it is obvious but worth restaing that we are unlikely to find a perfect time where literally everyone can participate, when you are talking about a group this large. Minutes, Recordings, and Transcripts of At-Large meetings

Dear colleagues: As many of you know, there have been difficulties and delays with minutes of At-Large meetings being posted expeditiously or in a consistent way. This email is to update you on a standardised process going forward which should greatly improve records-keeping and resolve all these issues. Henceforward, we will be handling these duties in a different way, so that they will be posted much more quickly: 1) We will be recording meetings at ICANN International meetings onsite. The recordings will then be immediately available, instead of waiting for the conference service to make them available (we have also had technical problems and delays with accessing recordings from the conference service, especially in respect of very long meetings such as are regularly a feature of international meetings). For teleconferences, these recordings will be posted, as has been the case for several months now, as soon as we have access to them. 2) The recordings will be sent directly off for transcription; generally the transcripts will come back in a matter of a few days - at which point they will be posted. 3) Very summarised minutes will be produced which give only: those attending / not attending, decisions taken, voting results, and agenda items tabled for discussion at a later meeting - because they are so summarised, you can expect these meetings to be available within minutes after the meeting concludes. To update you on the secretariat-activities left over from the Lisbon meetings: We are in the process of uploading recordings of the African and European regional meetings, and also the ALAC meetings, from the Lisbon ICANN meeting. These recordings will be transcribed as well, and having sourced an affordable transcription service, we are now in the process of getting the transcriptions done. Both transcripts and audio recordings will be posted as they become available. Please accept our apologies for the delays in these administrative tasks from Lisbon in particular. The volume of meetings - the European meetings alone ran to more than 24 hours of meeting time - has done us the favour of exposing the lack of scalability of our previous procedures, but this has also provided an opportunity to improve the accessibility of meeting results and information. LOCATIONS: All of the material related to meetings of the community will continue to be posted on the wikis. In the revised schedule, voting was expected to start on April 29th but let's see how the discussion goes - if the discussion is still alive and productive, I'm also fine with waiting until May 5th for the vote. By the way - assuming that all nominations are accepted, we now have eight candidates for the Board. If we agreed that whoever is not elected for the ALAC is added to the Board, we could have a 9-member Board and the two ALAC members, not reject anyone's desire to contribute, and only have to vote (if necessary) once.
