LAST CALL: Registration for EURALO GA 2013!

Dear all, this is a last call and still friendly reminder for the next F2F EURALO GA in June 2013 in Lisbon. As repeatedly announced, we need an early confirmation and registration of our member ALSes to make cheap travel arrangements etc. possible. So far, the majority of members (23) have confirmed their participation already –- thanks to all of them! The following ALSes are still missing: -ISOC Bulgaria -ISOC Catalan, Spain -ISOC Italy -E-Seniors, France -CLUSIT, Italy -KEPKA, Greece (as usual) -Terre des femmes, Germany (as usual) -Ynternet.org, Switzerland (as usual). Besides uniBIT Bulgaria just formally certified these days. With this last call we can offer you a FINAL deadline until Sunday 17 February for your registration. After that date we cannot grant you any ICANN funding for your participation in Lisbon any longer. I regret to note that for KEPKA, Terre des femmes and Ynternet.org this is a last chance to stay involved at EURALO because these members have not responded to anything over two years or even longer – and it makes no sense to keep them listed as member ALSes or “dead ducks”. All those who have registered in time are listed for Lisbon and will be contacted by ICANN Constituency Travel directly over the next weeks to prepare travel arrangements. As mentioned in my 2nd announcement, all those of you who intend to stay over for the weekend in Lisbon (after our GA and EuroDIG) can state this for the travel arrangements – extra nights in Lisbon will be on your own expenses however. Thanks for all your support what makes our GA preparations much easier. Looking forward meeting you again in summer. One important issue concerns "variants" which occur when a single character can be identified with two or more different Unicode Code Points with graphic representations that may or may not be visually similar. IDN variants contain one or more such characters and therefore, if not handled correctly, might result in user confusion or a poor user experience. In an effort to develop potential solutions for the delegation of IDN variant Top-Level Domains (TLDs), IDN Variant Project Teams, consisting of volunteers, subject matter expert consultants and ICANN staff, have conducted case studies in six scripts, produced an integrated report, and are currently underway to completing three projects investigating potential solutions for IDN Variant TLDs delegation. One of these projects is called the Examining the User Experience Implications of Active Variant TLDs Project (P6). The purpose of the project is to gain an understanding of issues that could arise from activating IDN Variant TLDs and offer recommendations to users to avoid such issues. Examples of user roles that have been identified include registrants, registrars, registry operators, system administrators, network operators, application developers, and end users. Project team has published for public comment the Draft Final Report for Examining the User Experience Implications of Active Variant TLDs <http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/variant-ux-18jan13-en.htm> and is seeking to establish a dialog with the community to refine proposed principles, impacts and recommendations of the study. 1st REMINDER: EURALO GA in June 2013 in Lisbon

Dear all, as announced by the end of December, the next EURALO General Assembly (GA) 2013 will be convened on 19 June PM in Lisbon/Portugal, in line with the next EuroDIG. And as noted before, it will be a face-to-face meeting again where all members are invited and funded by ICANN. Due to the fact that we have a rather limited budget only for our F2F GA, we need to start with our preparations, particularly travel bookings, as soon as possible to allow cheap flight fares for all of you. The registration procedure for the Lisbon GA therefore has to be accomplished by the *end of January* or beginning of February latest! After your registration you will be contacted by ICANN Constituency Travel for direct booking arrangements and for cheapest flights whenever possible. As mentioned before, your GA invitation comprises travel, two hotel nights in Lisbon (19 and 20 June) plus Per diems for three days – covering your participation at EuroDIG 2013 as well. Those of you who intend to stay over for a cosy summer weekend in Lisbon can state this for the travel arrangements – extra nights in Lisbon are on your own expenses however. What I need to know during the next two weeks is: *the name of the ALS representative coming to Lisbon *besides the closest airport to your respective residence. Regular ALS representatives who may be prevented for any reason during those days already can nominate a replacement representing their ALS.
