The problem about the poll is that as of now it is still unclear how the vote will be run. Each ALS representative will have up to 5 votes, that must be given to 5 different candidates. What is unclear is whether votes have to be given to people of different nationality/residence or not. I hope that we will have a final decision at tonight’s EURALO teleconference. After the withdrawal of Stéphane we have still 2 candidates registered as French and 2 candidates registered as Austria. The other 3 candidates are from different countries and will therefore be elected anyway (if they get at least one vote). I plan to cast a vote for the remaining candidates that were nominated by our Association - except for myself, of course - for the rest of the lot I will play it by ear, unless there is a strong voice from the members. One issue for clarification. You might have noticed that Clément Genty is running for office and is a member of our Association. I have not nominated him for the simple reason that I believe that the formal nomination for an EURALO position by our association should be done for members who have been active in the association. However, this does not mean that voters that are unhappy with the known candidates would not decide that they prefer the unknown. FY19 Additional Budget Requests - Timeline and Criteria

Dear All, This note is to announce that the FY19 Additional Budget Request process has started. This process pertains to a dedicated part of the overall ICANN annual budget that is set aside to fund specific requests from the community for activities that are not already included in the recurring ICANN budget. FY19 Additional Budget Requests cover the period 1 July 2018 through 30 June 2019. The relevant information is available on the At-Large FY19 Additional Budget Request Workspace<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+FY19+Additional+Budget…>, including the key deadlines, details of the process, principles and the request template. The ALAC Subcommittee on Finance and Budget<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/ALAC+Subcommittee+on+Finance+an…> (FBSC) plays a key role in reviewing all At-Large FY19 Additional Budget Requests for submission to ICANN. IMPORTANT: In 2016, the members of the FBSC agreed to the following criteria for At-Large proposals: * Outreach should not be a major focus. Activities to improve engagement with existing members is encouraged. * If any request is made on outreach, it should probably go through the CROPP program and not this special request process. * Proposals should include ways in which will make the ALAC and/or the At-Large community more effective and develop the At-Large community. * RALO requests must go through a bottom up process within their RALO prior to being submitted for consideration by the FBSC. * They must be explicitly supported by the RALO representative on the FBSC. * Staff is currently expecting that basic resources for community communications/printing will be supported through the core ICANN budget, but that community proposals for printing , etc. will be accepted as a back-up in case expectations change. Specific proposals for communications resources beyond simple printing and editing functions should be prepared and submitted. IMPORTANT: Between now and 12 January 2018 the RALOs are asked to review any ALS request or complete a template on behalf of the RALO and send requests to At-Large Staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>. What is your take on that, and specifically, on the recent workshop in Abu Dhabi, parallel to ICANN60? Capacity-building workshops are very useful in bringing not only new members, but also new voices to GAC discussions. Lowering barriers to participation is one of our objectives, and this is just one aspect of our work. Continuous evaluation and enhancement of such workshops, as well as providing the material in different languages, are crucial for achieving broader interactions and discussions in the GAC. What is on the GAC agenda for the next 12 months? We have urgent matters such as .amazon and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), WHOIS, and Registration Directory Services (RDS). There are also hot topics such as ICANN jurisdiction and geographic names, the important diverse topic of New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, and the long-standing discussions on intergovernmental organizations and international non-governmental organizations. This is in addition to the High Level Governmental Meeting scheduled for Barcelona in October 2018. Administratively, priorities include the review of the GAC Operating Principles and lowering barriers to participation. How do you see the role of the GAC chair? The main role of the chair is facilitating the work of the GAC in an accountable and transparent way, in order to provide timely consensus advice to the Board or input to the community. He gave training sessions and delivered speeches at various conferences, with a focus on DNS abuse and DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC). This was the first time ICANN organized a "roadshow" of lectures, united under common topics but adapted for diverse stakeholder groups. This workshop was a pre-event leading up to the International Conference on "Women, Digital and Development" (FENUD 2017 [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001dSR74fzuH1yHqIA54uErkeBkZlC2QqhoDmmmJidbq3oT…] which took place from November 16-17 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. FENUD aims to empower and bring together women in ICT. ARTCI, the new Côte d 'Ivoire ccTLD registry, updated participants on registrar accreditation. Apart from the DNS business aspect, ICANN also held sessions on the Internet ecosystem and ICANN multistakeholder model. FENUD 2017 was the first edition of a regional event. Participants came from neighboring countries such as Chad, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Algeria.
