I will attend the ICANN Studienkreis in Sofia at the end of this month (http://www.icann-studienkreis.net/) After that, I am planning to travel in Albania and the southern countries of the former Yugoslavia. I will be somewhat constrained in time, but if there will be the opportunity to meet with the local Internet communities, I would love to do it. To the best of my knowledge, there's no ALS over there (please correct me if I am wrong) but I would appreciate if someone has contacts. Cheers, Roberto

Hello, first of all, I hope you spent some nice and relaxing summer holidays after we met end of June in London. Meanwhile, some of us (Plamena, Valentina, Olivier, Bill, Avri, Sandra etc.) have attended the European Summer School on Internet Governance (EuroSSIG) in Meissen, Germany, what proofed to be an interesting and rewarding week again. URGENT // CALL FOR CANDIDATES: NTIA IANA Functions¹ Stewardship Transition Coordination Group

Dear All, Olivier Crépin-Leblond, Chair of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) has requested a call for candidates in the At-Large community for the NTIA IANA Functions’ Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (“Coordination Group”). On 6 June 2014, ICANN published a Process to Develop the Proposal and Next Steps<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/process-next-steps-2014-06-06-en> that is the culmination of a series of community discussions and input into the process to develop a proposal to transition the IANA functions to the global multistakeholder community. The process invited 13 communities to launch their internal processes to select their representative members in the Coordination Group. The upcoming Coordination Group gathering is scheduled for 17-18 July 2014 in London at the Hilton Metropole Hotel to finalize its modes of operation and working methods. To ensure transparency, the meeting will be accessible to all global stakeholders. Details of the meeting will be shared in the near future. The At-Large Sub-Committee on the Selection of Members for the IANA Stewardship Steering Committee (“Selection Committee”) is responsible for selecting two (2) candidates from the At-Large community to participate in the Coordination Group. Interested members from the At-Large community should send their Statement of Interest (SOI) to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org by Tuesday 08 July 2014 23:59 UTC. Reflections on NomCom 2014 experience ....

Dear Euralo colleagues, warm greetings to you all! As I am leaving London this morning for home, I am also leaving behind a tremendous amount of work that has been done by NomCom 2014. In line with the above, I wanted to thank you all for entrusting me to serve on NomCom during the past 2 years. It has been a very rewarding professional experience and t*he level of colleagiality, engagement, professionalism of the leadership of NomCom 2014 has just been stunning: Cheryl's extraordinay management and leadership skills, Stephan's capacity to challenge and his analytical thinking, Yrjo's tactfulness and diplomatic skills - all made it a very succesul NomCom and I am very proud to having had the opportunity to be on NomCom! * Of course, there is nothing perfect in this world, so we will continue (in the months to come), building on our key take away and contribute to the 'continuity' of NomCom via frameworks, approaches, mechanisms which could be institutionalized and make the work of the upcoming NomComs even better. For colleagues who are going to become part of NomComs in the future, here are my few tips based on the past 2 years: 1. *Time* *Management* - make sure you dedicate at least 4-8 hours per week on a regular basis to be able to keep track of what is being discussed and thus, be able to contribute. During the period when the SOIs (Statements of interest) are already in place, make sure you dedicate more time, especially to analyse carefully the data provided by the candidates; 2. * Outreach *- make sure you are using all the opportunities /other fora you are part of, in order to reach out to the best candidates possible. Be present online, share via the social media, engage with people who might be interested and encourage them to apply for ICANN leadership positions NomCom will recruit for. 3. *Latest research on core competences * - document yourself on competences that are needed and will be needed given the rapidly evolving world, look beyond the standard ones, try to be futuristing in your thinking when dealing with candidates and see how much of their competences will help them get out of their 'comfort zone' and really be able to provide input and make things progress; 4. *Latest research on personal development* - professional life needs to be balanced, and that means people should have personal development related goals and objectives. How you are able to 'read' through candidates' statements and interviews how much of that balance is in place, what do those people want to achieve in their lives in the years to come - again, this is something to do some research about. it is very valuable to bring these perpectives into the discussions as well. 5. *Emerging issues and international agenda/politics/diplomacy* - these are areas NomCom members have to also be able to bring some reflections on, given that candidates one brings to ICANN will be facing challenges related not only to the technical side of the issue, but also with other dimensions such as diplomayc/politics and be able to analyze and interprete how these are going to affect the work of ICANN in the years ahead. Well documentation of hte latest regional and international trends is crucial. 6. *Self-motivation* - NomCom needs people with intrinsic motivation, able to self-organize and really be interested in doing the work ahead of them. There is noone in NomCom responsible for motivating you, as a member, to be more active, or to incentivize you - this is not the case! You either do it, or will be left behind! It is all in your hands! So, if there is no strong internal motivation for this, NomCom is not for you:)! And finally, I will end up with one of the quotes from Jim Carrey which I really like a lot - "the best currency one has today is the capacity to influence the others" (lives, activity, etc in a positive sense) - So, if you consider that you have that capacity + all the above, NomCom is a perfect venue for you:)!
