Announcement of Upcoming Liaison Election Call

Dear All, The ALAC Chair has asked At-Large staff to advise the At-Large regions that she will be sending out two election calls shortly. The first election call will be for that of Board Liaison. This call will be followed three weeks later by a second election call for the other liaison positions (GNSO, ccNSO, NCUC, SSAC, IDN issues) and the ALAC appointment to the dotMobi Policy Advisory Board. For the position of Board Liaison, based on discussions between the ALAC and members of the Structural Improvements Committee and the ALAC Review Committee and whilst remaining within the current Rules of Procedure (ROPs) regarding an ALAC Election process, it is planned that in addition to the traditional nomination process previously conducted, the ALAC will explore the effectiveness of the different processes used to create a pool of candidates for potential use in future election calls. Thus, this election call will serve as a trial-run of the type of process that may be utilized for election calls for candidates to become Voting Members to the ICANN Board. Once the ALAC Chair has sent the official 'Election Call' for the very important Board Liaison election, each Region will be requested to forward the names of nominees that have been endorsed by the RALOs and their member ALSes to the public At-Large list within 14 days of the candidates' 'registration' as required by the ALAC ROPs. Nominees should be of the highest possible stature and possess exceptional capabilities, energy, and enthusiasm so as to effectively contribute to the future development of the ALAC. With this notice, the ALAC Chair wishes to heighten awareness within the Regions of the imminent election call so that the Regions may begin the necessary discussions for the process by which they wish to create a pool of candidates. ALAC strongly encourages and desires a wide, global pool of candidates for these positions. Une fois que la présidente de l’ALAC aura lancé l’appel d’élection officiel pour l’élection très importante du chargé de liaison auprès du Conseil d’administration, il sera demandé à chaque région de transmettre les noms de candidats approuvés par les organisations At-Large régionales (RALO) et leurs structures At-Large membres (ALS) pour inclusion dans la liste publique At-Large dans les 14 jours à compter de l’enregistrement des candidats, tel que requis par les ROP de l’ALAC. Dear all, as all our ALAC representatives will be on their way to Sydney already next Wednesday, I think, it doesn’t make much sense to have our monthly call – based on the Sydney meeting – without them (I prefer to rather talk with people than about them ;-). As Adam mentioned, it would be a tempting idea to try to arrange a call while our people (Adam, Patrick, Sébastien, Dessi, Rudi, Bill and Wolfgang) are in Sydney. But I don’t know whether we could find a suitable time slot for this because the meeting agenda at ICANN confs. is always enormous. And the time difference is considerable (what is convenient for us, is lousy for our travellers and visa-versa). http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converted.html?day=22&month=6&year=20… What about Monday, 22 june, late evening at 10:00 PM what would be Tuesday, early morning 06:00 AM in Sydney? Out of the “routine” of monthly calls, it could be an interesting experience for a distant participation of the community ... But I leave it up to the potential participants to decide. The ALAC greatly appreciates your group's interest in involving individual users in ICANN and looks forward to working with you and your colleagues. The purpose of ALS certification is to recognize that your organization meets the necessary criteria to involve individual Internet users at the local or issue level in ICANN activities, and that your organization will support its individual members' informed participation in ICANN efforts that affect end-users. The ALAC is eager to promote a productive working relationship between your organization, other ALS, and the ALAC (and ICANN in general), and your input on how we can make this a success would be greatly appreciated. We would like to offer some initial tools to help your organization keep its members informed (about significant news from ICANN and information on ICANN policy-development efforts) and engaged in activities of interest: - Point of Contact for your Organisation: Please send an email to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org identifying the names and email addresses of one or two individuals who will be the point of contact for information and correspondence regarding ICANN At-Large. If this changes, please let us know. - At Large Mailing Lists. There are many At Large email lists, for each region; you can signup for them and manage your subscriptions at: http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/mailman/listinfo. The points of contact you identify will automatically be added to your region's list just for accredited ALSes to discuss regional issues and to the mailing list for Staff announcements; you are invited to join others as you wish. - ALS information. Information about your organization will be shared with the At-Large community to enable individuals interested in your group's activities to contact you, and to encourage cooperation with other groups interested in ICANN activities in your geographic region. Please complete and email the form at the bottom of this note to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org. - ALAC website. The ALAC website (www.atlarge.icann.org) is a good source for ICANN news and information of interest to individual Internet users. We encourage you to provide your members with a link. The ALAC relies on volunteers to translate information into multiple languages. Translations of documents on the website are welcome and should be sent to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org. - At-Large Regional Websites. Regional webpages also have been created to distribute information (including in local languages) on activities, events and issues of particular interest to people in each region. These are being very substantially revised in the next couple of weeks but you should keep the URLs handy and check back regularly.
