EURALO Hot Topics - it's time to update it

Hello everyone, we are back with another round of EURALO HOT TOPICS! Yes, it's been a year since drafting the EURALO Hot Topics document. Time has passed and the world has changed. And perhaps have the EURALO Hot Topics changed too! So we're asking you to review the document that we drafted last year. To do that, we've prepared a new WIKI page: https://community.icann.org/display/EURALO/EURALO+Hot+Topics+2017 On this page you'll see a link to a Google DOC which has the "EURALO Hot Topics 2017 Draft". It's effectively the 2016 draft that we are inviting you to comment on. We'll then build up on this as time passes. We'll take the whole of September to do this, but check back often, as the document will evolve magically into the 2017 draft. The drafting of the EURALO Hot Topics document will lead to this document being shared with the ALAC. We might even derive a EURALO Statement out of it, that could be transmitted to other interested parties at ICANN. Just remember one thing, the Hot Topics do have to relate to the ICANN mission too. Dear Colleagues, as a follow-up to prior discussions where it became quite clear that EURALO needed to work on planning its future more pro-actively, Wale Bakare, Vice Chair of the EURALO Individuals Association sent me a first draft of their proposal for a EURALO Strategic plan at the beginning of the summer. After some discussion, it is now time to share this with everyone and gain input from all EURALO members, ALSes and individual members alike. To do that, we've prepared a new WIKI page called EURALO Strategy: https://community.icann.org/x/Qh8hB On this page you'll find a link to a Google DOC which has the "EURALO Strategy 2017". Please go to the Google DOC and comment on this first draft. The drafting of the EURALO Strategy document takes place alongside the EURALO Hot Topics document and the EURALO Outreach Strategy. Our target date for receiving comments and input is the end of September. That's the whole month of September to discuss Strategy and Hot Topics! We need your input. Consensus Call: New EURALO Secretary

Dear colleagues, on 4 September 2017, At-Large Staff initiated a call for candidates for the position of EURALO Secretary. The position that came up for renewal was held so far by the incumbent Wolf Ludwig. I have been informed by staff who have updated the EURALO Secretariat Election Page on https://community.icann.org/display/EURALO/EURALO+Secretariat+Election+2017, that one self-nomination was received from Olawale Bakare - his SOI being available on the election page. *No application having been received from anyone else, unless I hear to the contrary within 24H (consensus call), I would propose that we welcome Olawale (Wale) Bakare as the next EURALO Secretary by acclamation. * Wolf and Wale have already been in touch with each other and Wolf has proposed mentoring Wale as much as possible to help him into the position. The contrast is such, that ICANN has two Regional VPs to cover the region. Wolf has successfully navigated this complex environment for many years, even before the Regional VPs were in place, and I'd like to really thank him for that. I'd also like to thank him for having helped me into the position of EURALO Chair. I had worked with him in the past when I was assuming the position of Secretary and he taught me a lot. Call for feedback on Latin GP working documents on principles

Dear all, The Latin script community has formed the Latin script Generation Panel (GP), which is developing a Proposal for the Latin Script Root Zone Label Generation Rules, following the LGR Procedure <https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/lgr-procedure-20mar13-en.pdf> and based on the proposal and work plan <https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposal-latin-lgr-15may17-en.p…> developed by the Latin GP. The Latin GP has drafted its guiding principles to determine the code point repertoire for inclusion in the root zone LGR proposal and to determine the variant code points. The principles are being posted for public comments to allow the GP members to get feedback from the language and technical communities as the GP undertakes the tasks of repertoire and variant code point analysis. Based on the feedback, the Latin script GP will finalize the principles to guide its work.
