Each item is followed by a recommendation. 1) Ensure conformity of EURALO procedure and actions with existing legal or structural obligations (ICANN, ALAC and EURALO By-laws, Rules of procedure, Accepted standards in meetings, etc.). This applies, but is not limited to: membership, quorum, elections, rough consensus. Recommendation 1: a Board member with experience in these areas, and perhaps with a legal background, should be appointed as the « Legal reference point ». Excellent idea. 2) Consolidate relations with ALAC and other parts of ICANN. As in most ACs and SOs, the Chair of EURALO does this, and does it well (good visibility, good inter-personal skills, deep knowledge of the issues). Recommendation 2: no change. I would like to see our ALAC members take an extra care in fostering the link between ALAC and EURALO. They are our ambassadors on the ALAC. I would also like to see them take a leadership role on the ALAC, like Chairing a working group. As for the EURALO Board members, ideally they could chair a EURALO working group. 3) Enhance cooperation between EURALO and its ALSs. Over the years, this function has been carried out mainly by the Chair and/or Secretary. But with the gradual growth in the number of ALSs, this now requires a dedicated approach. Among other areas where cooperation would be appreciated: help in launching ALS surveys, help in participating in ICANN events, travel and accommodation support, etc. Recommendation 3: designate a Board member who, with the help of Support Staff, would be the prime contact point for all EURALO ALSs. Would this be an "inreach" officer? I would really support this too. 4) Consolidate EURALO contributions to ALAC and ICANN policy development. One of the current tasks is the appraisal of the At-Large Review: because of its complexity, but even more because of the implications of some of the recommendations in that Review, it is necessary to make sure that contributions are made on time, and that they are relevant. Recommendation 4: designate a Board member who is familiar with Policy development in the ICANN ecosystem, and who has a track record of making trains depart and arrive on time, at the right station. EURALO Hot Topics - it's time to update it

Hello everyone, we are back with another round of EURALO HOT TOPICS! Yes, it's been a year since drafting the EURALO Hot Topics document. Time has passed and the world has changed. And perhaps have the EURALO Hot Topics changed too! So we're asking you to review the document that we drafted last year. To do that, we've prepared a new WIKI page: https://community.icann.org/display/EURALO/EURALO+Hot+Topics+2017 On this page you'll see a link to a Google DOC which has the "EURALO Hot Topics 2017 Draft". It's effectively the 2016 draft that we are inviting you to comment on. We'll then build up on this as time passes. We'll take the whole of September to do this, but check back often, as the document will evolve magically into the 2017 draft. The drafting of the EURALO Hot Topics document will lead to this document being shared with the ALAC. We might even derive a EURALO Statement out of it, that could be transmitted to other interested parties at ICANN. Just remember one thing, the Hot Topics do have to relate to the ICANN mission too. Dear Colleagues, as a follow-up to prior discussions where it became quite clear that EURALO needed to work on planning its future more pro-actively, Wale Bakare, Vice Chair of the EURALO Individuals Association sent me a first draft of their proposal for a EURALO Strategic plan at the beginning of the summer. After some discussion, it is now time to share this with everyone and gain input from all EURALO members, ALSes and individual members alike. To do that, we've prepared a new WIKI page called EURALO Strategy: https://community.icann.org/x/Qh8hB On this page you'll find a link to a Google DOC which has the "EURALO Strategy 2017". Please go to the Google DOC and comment on this first draft. The drafting of the EURALO Strategy document takes place alongside the EURALO Hot Topics document and the EURALO Outreach Strategy. Our target date for receiving comments and input is the end of September. That's the whole month of September to discuss Strategy and Hot Topics! We need your input. EURALO-RIPE MoU Draft - please comment

Dear EURALO members, as you know, Wolf and I have been in discussions with RIPE NCC, Europe's Regional Internet Registry (RIR), to follow the example of other regions and build some better links between them and EURALO, including the possible signing of a Memorandum of Association for further collaboration. After a few meetings, RIPE has now come back to us with the attached proposed MoU. Please be so kind to comment on the contents of the MoU. I have passed this text by the EURALO Board and have received no objection to present it as is to the EURALO membership. I have presented this text during the last EURALO call and the following suggestion was made to add the following text: "The RIPE NCC and EURALO recognize the benefits of mutual collaboration and support between the Parties on Internet-related issues, including but not limited to mutual cooperation to sustain the global stability of the Internet" This text makes sense and received consensus support on the EURALO call. Should there be no objection, I shall ask RIPE whether they would be agreeable to add this text to the MoU. The format and contents of the MoU are based on the MoUs of other RALO. EURALO Outreach Strategic Plan - please comment

Dear colleagues, please be so kind to find this year's EURALO Outreach Strategic Plan, developed in coordination with the EURALO Board as well as EURALO's ALS Engagement Task Force. Because I have launched this process too late, we are really late with the plan and it should be filed with ICANN by the end of the week, which gives us only 24H to finalise this plan. That was the date when a new key appeared in the DNS for the first time since 2010. The new key is part of the ongoing effort leading up to a changing or "rolling" of the key signing key (KSK) - scheduled to occur on 11 October 2017. A global outreach effort is currently underway to ensure that network operators around the globe are ready for the change in October.
