Summary of preferences

All, here is a summary of the preferences that I have seen: Option 1 (15 Apr) Patrick, Rudi, Dessi, Sebastien Option 2 (22 Apr) Vittorio Option 3 (1 May) Annette, Wolfgang, Werner Now before we get to further polarization of the disagreement even on this somewhat minor issue, can we please agree on the middle ground of option 2? So you all could be equally unhappy. By the way, if we start to discuss nominations rather than continuing this thread, we might discover that we actually agree on appointments well before the deadline. Also, the problem about timing for Puerto Rico is real! Generally speaking, and VERY IMPORTANT for anyone who wants to be in Puerto Rico: please check immediately the requirements for entry in the US. Only citizens from some EU countries (not all) may enter without a visa, and only if they have a brand new electronic passport, or an optically readable passport last renewed before October 2005. In Italy, for example, people who got or renewed their passport between October 2005 and October 2006 cannot enter the US without a visa! I don't know about other countries, but people from Eastern Europe, and perhaps also some from the EU, will need a visa to go to Puerto Rico. Please check. Thanks, -- vb. Werner: All the information you are asking for has been posted several times over the past few days to this list. It is also posted at the EURALO website at www.euralo.org. Since you have referenced the URL below on the wiki - which www.euralo.org goes to - I can see you have access to it. All the information about everything that is happening is being sent to all the ALSes, including you - and it always has been. You are not missing anything unless your email server has problems, or your spam filter is catching emails from the list, or for some other techical reason; since you are responding here you must be getting some of it. May I just encourage everyone not to abandon the consensus process agreed in Lisbon. It was agreed and it isn't a very good precedent if something that a large body of ALSes all found agreement on is immediately proposed to be discarded before it has even had a chance to work - if more time is needed for some of the steps, that will become clear, and I'm sure that all parties will see the sense of extending things and it will be seen as the natural thing to do. I certainly understand your points about the amount of time - but this was considered quite carefully by your colleagues and discarding elements of that agreement would likely produce the same negative by-products which you wish to avoid... Not only that - the Bylaws and MoU expressly provide for a way for ALSes to become a part of the MoU after it is signed, and the way they will be able to do this is entirely up to EURALO. Let me once again repeat: 1) ALL ALSes are AUTOMATICALLY a part of the EURALO 2) ALL ALSes will have a way to join the MoU at ANY point, now or later - and the process for doing this is ENTIRELY up to EURALO. I have not read anyone suggesting that any ALS would be excluded, and in fact, the MoU and Bylaws both ensure that every ALS IS included. The timeline also does not envision a two week timeline - the timeline is more than double that.
